In the UK, organisers and attendees face criminal prosecution for 'free parties' or unlicensed events under Part V of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 (sections 63-66). This is anything with 20 or more people in attendance and includes gatherings on private property. Got more than 20 friends coming round to your house? Big birthday party, maybe? Playing music with 'repetitive beats'? You need government permission with an associated fee.
