I believe we die when we die. This is not what I want to believe, I would like to think we stick around somewhere, or our lives get recycled and sent to a different galaxy, or even get sent to Heaven or Hell, any of those would be better in my opinion than just shutting down completely, but it's more likely for this to happen than any other fantasy we could dream of.

Nothing. Death will be the last thing that happens to me. After that, nothing else can happen to me.

Unless you have done something noteworthy you will be completely forgotten. And even if you did do something no one will ever know what you were like as a real live person. You will cease to exist when the last person who personally knew you dies. There is no spiritual afterlife where your "soul" will experience eternal bliss or eternal punishment.

According to all the eyewitness accounts from all the previously deceased people who came back to detail all those events.... ..errr.... no one has ever done such a thing. I have no reliable information regarding any form of consciousness after death.
Also, I feel no need to indulge in the wishful thinking that my consciousness will continue after my death, like so many of my fellow humans do... poor deluded fellows.

So, what happens to my body is biological decay, as with any other biological entity on this planet.
What happens to my consciousness is it turns off for eternity, like a computer that gets shut down, broken down and its parts recycled.

I agree with you all, but you do make it sound a little depressing.

Who I am today will be gone by tomorrow, doomed to a post-existence eternity of nothingness. So what?
