It is only a meteor when it is in the air. The moment it touches ground it is meteorite.

Were I a pedant, I might suggest that meteorites are what are found after the impact event.

But I'm not, so I won't. Angel

Were I a pedant, I might suggest that meteors are what passes through the air before an impact event.

But I'm not, so I won't.

I simply put stuff like this in the category of "Things I Have No Control Over" and get on with life.

When the Vogons show up, I hope Ford Prefect is nearby - and I know where my towel is.

Were I even more of a pedant, I might point out that, technically, the appellation meteor is given to the flash of light as the object burns up in the atmosphere. Whatever the case, no meteor has ever hit the ground, by definition.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

When in danger,
When in doubt,
Run in circles
Scream and shout!
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Quote:As a Delta Air Lines jet was flying over Arizona on a clear day, the copilot was providing his passengers with a running commentary about landmarks over the PA system.

“Coming up on the right, you can see the Meteor Crater, which is a major tourist attraction in northern Arizona. It was formed 50,000 years ago when a lump of nickel and iron, roughly 150 feet in diameter and weighing 300,000 tons struck the earth at about 40,000 miles an hour, scattering white-hot debris for miles in every direction. The hole measures nearly a mile across and is 570 feet deep.”

From the cabin, a blonde passenger was heard to exclaim, “Wow! It just missed the highway!”
