What Do I need Saved From?

Hi Folks,
When I was a Christian I used to try and 'Save' people but now Its got me thinking, Who was I saving people from?
The same God who supposedly loved his people so much he sent his son to die for them - Because if that's the case then that makes no sense what so ever.
So God is willing to have his son die for people but because the Clergy have fucked up his true word beyond belief he would punish people for thinking its a bunch of bull shit?
Is that really true of God?

He's saving them from himself and the hell that he created in case they didn't come to him to be saved.

I understand what you guys are saying but firstly
1) Satan does not reign in Hell
2) Why would God create a Hell for us to be Saved From?

Mostly they just want to save you from the burden of deciding what to do with 10% of your income.

Supposedly you're being saved from yourself. Though to me it seems like he sacrificed himself, to himself, to save us from a place he made, as punishment for a cursed he placed on us. That doesn't really paint a pleasant picture of him, though, so it's most likely him having mercy on you for being evil at your core. Everyone is. Even children are. Isn't that nice?
