I don't know just looking for justification.
Do not use the bible to justify your answer

I don't know why Yahweh had a thing for punishing people for things that other people did. Infant mortality was probably high back then, and when kids started dying they may have seen it as a sign of some god's judgement. Of course this makes him come off as a bad guy.
