Anyone suffering from things they learned in the church?

Anyone suffering from things they learned in the church?
Hi, I'm new to this forum. I joined so I could see if other people have went through what I have. Namely, having to overcome a lot of the stuff I learned in church as a kid

One thing that happened to me (it was embarassing at the time, but I've gotten over it) was erectile dysfunction. Because the church said sex is evil, I would always feel super guilty when I got with girls.

It wasn't until years later that I got over.

I was just wondering if anyone else had experiences like that

Anything I have to offer is pretty damn mild. Maybe a fear of hell? After realizing that it was all bullshit, I no longer lost any sleep wondering whether my friends, family, or myself would end up in hell; the thought used to stress me out quite a bit (I had/have a lot of atheist friends, and I'd wonder if my family were "good enough Christians").

That, and I save a few bucks every week :p
I'm a bitch, I'm a lover
I'm a goddess, I'm a mother
I'm a sinner, I'm a saint
I do not feel ashamed

The only things I learned at church are:

1. No matter how stupid a person already is by himself, he can always be made more stupid in a group.

2. It is remarkably easy to gather stupid people together in a group.

As a result of what I learned, I still suffer from lack of a confidence that humans have indeed evolve much since when their ancesters stopped fucking chimps on daily basis.

dsquared: What theology or religion did they practice in that church? In Christianity, sex is a gift given by God, it becomes sinful when you practice it out of marriage. And socializing with girls is not sin, neither feeling attraction towards them.

Not that particular symptom....in fact, when I rebelled, I want "the other way".
But to answer your question, as a raised catholic kid up until I reached about 22 to 26 years of age, much guilt was inculcated in my mind that I've struggled to eliminate over time.
The catholics - more than any other religious group - have fine tuned mind-control to absolutely new heights!
People don't go to heaven when they die; they're taken to a special room and burned.

As a kid, I was aware I wasn't allowed to play with 2 of my cousins, and their mom was not welcome in our home.

But I didn't know why.

Come to find out, their mother, my aunt, was divorced and remarried. Her second husband was welcome in our home (helped build our garage!) as he was only married once.

Funny now, but mom took the church stuff pretty seriously.

BTW, my 2 cousins there, the one that was AWFUL as a kid, a total brat, is now a respected school teacher, and his brother, the quiet, introspective one, is a high functioning alcoholic. Go figure. I'm not sure how religious their upbringing was, that family sure as hell did not go to our church, LOL!

The church only says that when it doesn't involve a priest and a little kid.

I learned about pornography in church, form the pastor, as he was talking about what evils it does to young people. That's just a cruel thing to do to someone who already has unrealistic value judgements Smile

Anybody needing religion as an impediment for beating the fuck out of old ladies needs to be institutionalized.
