RE: Bad news for vegetarians
Plants generally have defenses against pests and predators, reactive - passive, and even, yes, proactive. (we qualify as both, of course- to them)

We just think that there's some firm defining line between our "experience" and theirs. One ghost accusing another of having "nothing under the sheets".

Obvs just drifting here.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I saw some people arguing that plants feel pain too. Is this true?
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

Without a brain to process sensations, doubtful.

Is pain a tool for dealing with the environment? Is it biological in nature (chemical/electrical)? Would there be more than one way of achieving the "effect" of "pain"?

Any of these being a Y would lead one to at least consider the plants experience. If only for the way it makes us reassess our own.

Yeah for sure. How could we answer these without the plants communicating to us directly though?

If plants can feel pain, can they also feel pleasure?
