If I'm not mistaken the US is the most religious out of all western countries, not even Italy is that much religious, and they have the vatican

Americans have always had that childishness about them; simplistic, really.

It is curious that while the US is supposedly the example of democracy, freedom and fundamental rights, they simultaneously have so much trouble regarding freedom of religion AND from religion, secularism and State-Church separation. Hawkins presented an idea to explain this, he said something like 'In Britain religion got boring, but in the US it became trendy and churches are State funded'.

The same is said for American atheists....
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

Probably not. But I'm willing to bet that many see calling for its removal as an assault against god himself, and for that reason, I say that the monument is an item of worship.

The thing that I think is ridiculous about the ten commandments, is that death is the penalty for breaking most of them. Why would you want a monument the advocates death for finite crimes and thought crimes?

Or, since 'god's' justice is so different from 'man's' justice, why would you want a monument of god's justice in front of a building that supposes man's justice is supreme?

Europeans who have to deal with them.

What a sophisticated thought -- I'm impressed.

Oh, wait.

I thought this part was pretty funny:
Quote:At trial Mr. Mauzy testified that he views this lawsuit as an attack on his religious freedom, thereby reaffirming the impression that the Ten Commandments monument was meant to communicate a religious message.
It's embarrassing enough that he was trying to deny that his motive was religious, but to so transparently try to play both sides was the icing on the cake.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
