Yeah, that comment made me realize what a waste of fucking time it is even trying to reason with him.

Its just frustrating. I don't see skin color, I see Americans. On the news there's people being interviewed, who say that 'the talk' is necessary for the safety of their sons with regards to police. I can't even imagine.. Like, growing up police were emulated by me and my brother. I've never met a bad cop, and I respect them for what they do. That's how I was raised.
I don't understand how a bigger city like Ferguson could have so few minorities on the police force, but growing up in a small town that used to be the Midwest KKK rally point--I can see how small towns with limited posts could have preferential treatment. If there is such a divide between the police and the policed in big cities though, then this needs rectified. In my opinion when Obama was elected, everyone came out of their little politically correct hiding holes and this is just a consequence of the free for all environment that Republicans have been shamelessly promoting for years. The urban populations hardly have any control over their own fate, and rather have authorities who seek to suppress them and help them self detonate. The fault lies with the leadership-- Missouri and Florida being heavily red states.

Poor people are being segregated by their skin color, you mean? The rental market is set up to create divides, by ensuring their criteria are tailored to disqualify entire wage earning populations. As a result, one can only live where one qualifies to live based on credit and income.

Jerrying with it in this way creates value for the property owners. Do you want to rent apartments in a slum or townhouses in a gated community (they're the same stock design from -Peachtrees- to -The Gated Swan-)? Where does the loan money go when purchasing a home?

The racial makeup of Ferguson has been changing rapidly. It was majority white in the 90s. I don't think the department has made a serious effort to catch up to the demographics, but it's at least somewhat understandable that their police force is still mostly white, cops tend to make a career of it and put in their 20-30 years.

I don't mind the talk about racial profiling. I think it's a subject that should keep coming up over and over until no one is at a greater risk of being stopped just because of their skin color.

That being said, I kind of wish the Ferguson issue would bring up more talk about police brutality, and how we can change the way we train officers to ensure they're prepared to deal with potentially dangerous people without constantly killing them.

A nice start would be to not give them billions worth of surplus military-grade equipment.
