Howdy Folks

RE: Howdy Folks
Quote:I believe in a Higher Power. I do not know what this Power is, I have an idea on where it came from.

The part I added in bold is what I think he's disputing.

You might as well have said "I believe things exist, but I haven't read any scientific findings that explain them."
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

I took the "I am here as a middle aged man" as if is was a choice, like putting on a costume. Which stuck me as a back handed insult. Then, right off the go, we get the "I am a spiritual person here to answer any and all of your questions". I took that as pure arrogance, and a more direct insult. Somehow we are ignorant of what "spiritual" means, haven't heard the claims a thousand times before? The questioning and answering should be going the other way. We are not the ones suffering from delusions.

I didn't get the impression "playing nice" was in the cards with this one. If he(?) wants to be patted on the poe-poe and treated like a spiritual guru of some kind, he can chose a different playpen.

Mod hat:

Playing nice is the only available card in the Intro forum. Don't make me remind you again.

Falling between two stools is more like it. I don't see any evidence of you higher power, therefore I don't believe in it. Religious folks adamantly believe in something rather more specific.

I don't believe in the human spirit either, at least not if you mean something like a soul. We are here. We are important to ourselves and each other. But I don't think we exist outside our physicality.

I do have a question though. In what way does your higher power change the way we should live or view the universe?

I think you just called yourself a stool. Big Grin

If I am between two stools I am in the middle.

I think you do believe in a power so strong that the whole universe was created by it. It is called the Big Bang/Energy. It is that kind of power that I respect/believe in. The simple fact that we exist proves there are powers beyond our control. To me the complexity of it all proves intelligence existed before us.

If we are gods of our own destiny seems to me we would not die.

This is just my introduction. It's nice to meet you Jenny A. Smile

I'll start a thread about souls and spirits another day. Don't want to start more threads than I can keep up with.

Good day. Cool Shades I'll answer that question in another thread or you can PM me.

Don't need too. Eventually quoting them word for word is all it takes to highlight the silliness of their "woo".

I don't see how saying "I don't know" is saying I do know. You don't make any sense at all to me. I did plainly state I DON'T KNOW.

I don't think you do. I don't think anybody does. Confusedhock: That's as humble as it gets. On top of all that I do not claim to be perfect. I make mistakes. I own up to them.

You have not made a good case of "arrogance" against me. All you have proven is your bias.

You won't find much "woo" in my posts. I don't appreciate "woo" myself.

Is this my introduction? Confused Fall

Zidneya I am all woman. Are you prejudice against cross-dressers? Not cool dude, not cool. It's not my place to judge cross-dressing.

Tjakey,

I don't think it is arrogant to think that I would come here and not be asked questions. To use that as evidence of arrogance makes me doubt you understand what arrogance is. Again extremely weak case.

Nice to meet you too. Undecided

PS I said, "I'm in the middle", not I'm a middle aged man. ROFLOL

I wish you were not so angry. It's not good for your health.

That depends. Are they hot?

I agree 100%. Ugly people shouldn't cross-dress.

That just sounds like the physical laws of the universe. The fact that I don't float off into space, and cannot do so on demand, proves that there are powers beyond our control. The complexity of it tells me little. The chaotic and messy nature of it all doesn't make me think that there's an intellect behind it. One of the hallmarks of intellect is its ability to communicate its thoughts to others in a clear and distinct manner. If such a universal intellect exists, I expect that we'll run into it at some point. Until then, I'm not worried about it, and I stopped trying to wish it into existence some years ago.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

RE: Howdy Folks
Tonus,

It does tell me something. That nobody knows and should stop fighting about it. I will not come to an absolute conclusion until we have more data. Until then I'm chilling.

The universe is beautiful. I see it like this. If you don't want to be found put an astronomical distance like a moat, dark matter, and like a fort, all kinds of dangers to get through to even attempt to find the Beginning.

On top of all that you can not see intelligence. Only the physical things it produces.

The two conclusions drawn here, no god/s-atheist, a god by Christians, are made with very little knowledge. 2% I believe it is.

You guys have definitely poked a lot of holes into religion. I feel the same way. It stops there. To say more is over stepping your boundaries, lack of knowledge.

I don't condemn atheism, I do condemn cruelty and mockery because it's Bad Manners. Whether it's an atheist or religious person, it's just uncivilized, messy and chaotic. It is an enemy of PEACE.

I find it fascinating that this planet with all the mess and chaos has stayed right where we need it to for billions of years. It is in the exact same place. That's neat and tidy where I come from. I don't call that proof of anything. That's my brain working. Some people like roast beef, some don't. Just don't try to MAKE them eat it if they don't want to.

I had an aunt that I loved to go see on summer break. She made green bean casserole. Now I like green beans very much I did not like the casserole. She made me eat it and I was pretty hurt and angry about that. I did not go spend any more summers there.

Nice to meet you too!
