Conservatives cherry pick the Reagan years like fundamentalists cherry pick the Bible.

Reagan made a deal with Tip O'neil. In exchange for amnesty the boarder would be secured. The democrat reneged on that deal....but that is besides the point. When Reagan granted amnesty he did so with authorization from congress. If Obama grants amnesty to the same degree....it will be by fiat.

For what it is worth....If I was benevolent dictator, I would open the boarders and let anyone in....provided they are coming in to work.

It was both. It was for perjury and obstruction *about* the blow job he got.

They didn't get him on lying about anything outside of his personal life. He lied about a blow job. Period.

The punishment should have been a plea deal on the perjury count where he agrees to plead guilty in exchange for a sentence of a $500 fine and Congressional censure. That would have saved the international embarrassment and the national cost to the tax payers of all the hassle regarding a fruitless attempt to impeach him over getting a blow job and then lying about it.

And then W Bush lies us into a war in Iraq but that's OK because when the GOP took the White House, we shamelessly shifted from "even the appearance of impropriety must be investigated, no matter that we're at war" to "shut up, salute, and support our president while the nation is at war or you're a terrorist sympathizing traitor."

Quote:I don't see them being able to do that this time. They can't even sell Obama care to the public.

Obama has made a tragic mistake that has haunted his entire presidency. He threw his liberal base under the bus, even openly insulting us, and sacrificed his mandate in a fruitless effort to build reconciliation and bipartisanship with the people who vowed to ruin his presidency no matter the cost to the nation. He "negotiated" by starting at the halfway point, giving away the store before he even got to the table, and "negotiated" the rest away after he arrived and still wound up with no bipartisan support to show for it.

Clinton was at least a shrewd political strategist who knew which way the wind was blowing and always maneuvered to put himself in the best position. Sure, he also betrayed liberals with NAFTA and other concessions to conservatives, but he only did so when he absolutely had to. That's why he left office with high approval ratings.

Obama is a tragic character. He flipped off the liberals with both hands and now they only vote for him because the GOP has gone crazy and the Democrats are the lesser evil. As for the GOP, he threw olive branch after olive branch and finally chopped down the whole damn olive tree for them and still they see him as Satan incarnate. He's lost the centrists and low information voters in between because he waits for the GOP to frame the debate and operates in reaction mode. No wonder his approval rating is in the tank despite all his accomplishments.

It's way past time for the Democrats to face obvious facts even as our corporate media will not: The GOP has gone bug-fucked insane. While in power, they will wreck the country. When out of power, they will not do anything except throw cinder blocks into traffic.

If they take the Senate, fasten your seat-belts because it's going to be a bumpy two years.

I don't know what fantasy world you live in but Obama has demonized the republicans ever since he got in office. Everything that was wrong with the country was always the republicans fault....which just isn't true.

There will be....but there will be even more people voting red. I like to the republicans to win soley so they can stop Obama from appointing puppets like Kagan and Sotomayer. Aside from that, I would love a split, deadlock government that doesn't pass anything accept house keeping bills.

Oh please.

Obama's first act was to let W Bush off the hook for lying us into a war. There would be no prosecution. There would not even be an investigation. For the sake of "healing the nation" we were going to "look forward and not look back".

Obama's second act was to unconditionally forgive Sen Lieberman, again trying to look forward and not back. His seats in the Senate should have been conditional on supporting filibuster reform.

Obama's stimulus package involved the GOP too much. He weighed the package down with useless tax cuts instead of a pure infrastructure project to both rebuild the crumbling nation and put people immediately to work. Despite the concessions, he still had no GOP support to show for it.

Obama's signature piece, "Obamacare" was a GOP plan not long ago. It was based on a plan hatched by the Heritage Foundation, proposed by Newt Gingrich in the 90s, implemented by Mitt Romney and upheld by the Robert's Court. Liberals wanted Medicare-For-All. Liberals would have liked a Public Option. Liberals would have settled for a Medicare-Buy-In. We were thrown under the bus, again for an attempt to buy peace with the GOP which was never going to happen anyway.

The GOP, by contrast, declared on day 1 of his presidency that their #1 goal was to make him a 1 term president. Good think the country wasn't at war or in an economic meltdown, huh?

The GOP has passed a record low number of bills in the House while filibustering a record number of bills in the Senate. They even filibuster bills that the GOP later votes for. They're filibustering for its own sake, to try to gum up the works as much as possible.

Last year, the GOP shut down the government, at a cost of $24 billion to our economy, and threatened to destroy our country and the world economy in an act of political blackmail and treason. If the Teabaggers had their way, we would have defaulted on our debts as a political stunt, our credit rating would be somewhere around Argentina, our economy would have collapsed making 2008 look like a minor correction and the world economy would have also been severely damaged.

Never before has any sitting president had to prove he was an American citizen.

Never before has any sitting American president been heckled by a member of Congress during a State of the Union.

Never before has any sitting American president been faced with a Congress that refuses to do anything.

So I got news for you, Obama has actually been too kind to the GOP with his criticism. The GOP crashed our economy in 2008. They threatened to do it again as a political stunt in 2013. They lied us into a war. They botched the war and the reconstruction. They stupidly fired all the Baathists from the Iraqi military, who then joined Al Qaida and later ISIL. They pulled us out right before Obama came into office in 2009 with the treaty they signed with the Iraqi government. The GOP has fucked up this country and continues to sabotage it at every turn our of spite.

I believe that history will judge Obama as a naive tragic idealist who sacrificed everything for a national healing that was never going to happen.

I could see the republicans impeaching Obama if he grants "amnesty" to illegal aliens.

I doubt that's going to happen, for the same political reasons as the Republicans shouldn't impeach Obama: Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority in America. Such a move would alienate them to the Dems, and give the Republicans a new lease on life.

Of course you would; that way you can say "See, I was right, government isn't good for anything!"

It's an underhanded, shitty strategy that harms the nation solely for the sake of uttressing your ideological preconceptions, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
