The One Thing the Atheist Misunderstands

The analogy above still applies.

RE: The One Thing the Atheist Misunderstands
First of all how much of the book (in this case Bible) do you think supports the 'Universe is gawd' concept? If you cherry pick certain parts, then sure you can somehow get the words to mean that (given the scriptures can be interpreted as virtually anything, hence the few thousand christian denominations).

But leaving the scriptures aside for a bit, what is your definition of "life" and "sentience"? Because based on our current definition of "life", the universe cannot be termed as a living sentient being. Moreover, even if you stretch your imagination to define it as a macro being, it doesn't match the image of god presented in any of the largest known religions.

Noone said anything about normal.

And yes, I've read through the diatribe. It just gives the impression of another theist believing to have found the sorcerer's stone to make his claims more plausible. So you came up with some bible verses, big deal. They're as obscure and open to interpreation as they always are. Yet suddenly you're convinced it would leave an impression here of all places. Why is your concept supposed to be any better than the ones presented to us on a daily basis?

Have you actually tried your thesis on a christian board to see how well it sits there?

OMG YOU BRING UP SUCH A GREAT POINT!!!!

you guys all think of it as some UNOBTAINABLE 'SORCERER'S STONE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have you ever tried thinking of God as Obtainable?
just curious.

maybe that is why your mind is blocking you from knowing an incredibly simple concept to understand and then insert into the Bible and re read it and have a jolly old LAUGH?

yeah Christians tend to hate me too lol

It is rough knowing lol
but 7860876098608975680645 times better than NOT KNOWING HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

but keep trying to convince me I am wasting my time LOL
RE: The One Thing the Atheist Misunderstands
You are wasting your time, though. That's the thing. You think you know about the things you're talking about but it's pretty obvious you don't have a clue. Not a single clue. You're the epitome of a bull in a china shop, or a pigeon playing chess. You regurgitate this stuff you've read on apologist websites or that which your pastor has presented as 'evidence' that a god thing exists. But you don't have any real understanding or knowledge behind it, do you?

About 10 pages back or so I asked for evidence. You responded with what you believe and assertions (everything is god), which isn't evidence.

You're right, though. The bible, when used as a benchmark for understanding reality, is pretty laughable, as are the beliefs that go hand in hand with believing the BS it is selling you.

We don't care what you believe. What we care about is something demonstrable, something testable. Simply asserting, through circular reasoning, that a 'god' (no idea what a god is) exists, is not very convincing.

Most of us have, yes. We stopped when we realized we were starting to sound like you.

thank you for this Smile

i'm sorry you can't understand a simple concept an 8 year old can understand.

Maybe read what I posted?

It's not that we don't 'understand' - We understand (sort of) what you're typing.

It's just that they sound like the thoughts of an 8 year old.

See, when I was around 8 in fact, I started to realise that the god hypothesis being presented to me was un-evidenced bullshit. A particularly fundie Xtian teacher used to talk to us about Jésus and this god thing, and I realised that they used to give a lot rhetoric, but very little (no) evidence.

It's the same with your posts. You retort with things like "well just look around you! Everything is evidence of god!", when in reality Occam's Razor demolishes that argument right off the bat.

Then you'll retort with further things like "the bible proves a god", which is circular reasoning because all the bible in fact does is claim that there's a god; it doesn't evidence it. Homer's Odyssey isn't evidence of Odysseus' adventures is it? Or indeed Odysseus himself. Why should the bible be treated any different?

Indeed, we know who wrote the Odysssey, we know who wrote the Iliad. We have no idea who wrote or indeed edited large swathes of the biblical text.

Regardless, I'm growing tired of you. Up your game. I don't what you're trying to achieve with the whole "write posts like someone who's never typed on a keyboard before", but it's pissing me off. And bad things happen to those who piss me off.

ZOMG you guys are SO ROFL!

Homers Odyssey is certainly not proof of the adventures contained therein anymore than the Bible is

but does Homers Odyssey not use LANGUAGE?

Would the LANGUAGE in Homers Odyssey therefore be INVALID since there is no way to prove that the STORY is true?
Or are the WORDS themselves just as valid as any word can be?

the Bible DEFINES Religion.
DEFINES GOD.

You can all God ANYTHING you want and say he is a great spaghetti monster as long as you are using a denotation and CONNOTATION that is in harmony with YOUR VIEW of the spirit and nature of the thing you are describing.
This is true in ANY LANGUAGE

What the Bible does is provide the CONTEXT by which we can KNOW the MEANING intended by the AUTHOR.

The quotes you so casually disregard are CLEAR EVIDENCE of the AUTHORS INTENDED MEANING!

keep trying you will get this Angel Cloud

Ten pages of unmitigated bullshit. Yet another dolt with absolutely no evidence for his claims. Once the child realizes that the adults will not let him have his way there will just be the choice of reaction: grows up a little, sulks and pouts, or throws a temper tantrum.

truly all there is to it.

NOT a hard thing to get.

it is a Great Book when you finally understand it Angel Cloud

I'm done. You're an idiot. And a troll. If you want to contend the text says something it doesn't, fine.

The ENTIRE book supports the "Universe is gawd" part both Old and New Testaments and literally HUNDREDS of other religious texts from around the world throughout time.

the quotes I gave are EXAMPLES.

Life = EXISTENCE

Sentience = KNOWLEDGE OF EXISTENCE

And if YOU stretch YOUR imagination and define It as a Macro being then it does not fit YOUR INTERPRETATIONS based on HEARSAY of the largest known religions.

I am saying READ their books... It MATCHES PERFECTLY. LOLOLOL!

REALLY !!!! LOL SO OBVIOUS HOW DO YOU NOT SEE? LOL!
