Are Anti-theists really the "mean atheists?"

RE: Are Anti-theists really the "mean atheists?"
I always give theists several chances to listen to reason before I chainsaw them into mulch and roll around in their giblets.

Free will, right? They murdered themselves if they won't listen to me.

I'm mean to theists, but usually only here on these forums. Almost every one of them that comes here comes here looking for a fight, and their beliefs are just about always horrifying and inhumane, so they deserve all that they get.

I want to kill Religion with Logic and Reasoning--it's worst enemy-- without hate and disrespect towards its followers. Is it possible to be an Anti-theist and not be mean to others about it? Thanks a bunch.

Yes. The vast majority of anti-theists wish no harm to theists, I doubt most of us even want to ban religion or public displays of faith

No, I don't want to ban religion, or to stop public displays as long as they don't inconvenience other people.

I want it to have its hypnotic hold over society taken away so that it can be safely ignored as the bunch of hokum that it is.

That's why I have a beef with moderates, because everyone who goes around saying faith is a virtue is playing a part in keeping the trickery going. Luckily, they are the ones most likely to listen to reason.

Of course moderates are always preferable to extremists, and I would never advocate any action against moderates except discussion.

I am an anti-theist as far as the abrahamic religions are concerned. I am anti-theist in the sense that the abrahamic god(s), even if they exist, are not worthy of being revered. I am adamant that the abrahamic gods are evil gods (if they exist) if the bible and quaran are to be taken seriously. I see these religions as an abomination and a obstacle to the progress of humanity. But I don't go about killing christians, islamists or jews. I just oppose their practise and will swiftly tell them to "get lost" if they do venture in my comfort zone. That's my form of terrorism.

On the other hand, I am just an atheist when it comes to hinduism, shintoism or aboriginal religions as I have no reason to oppose their followers - at least till now. I am all ears if a Hindu sage can present me undeniable proof of Brahama, Vishnu or Shiva.

Do moderates actually do this? Sounds more characteristic of fundamentalists.

Anti-theism has nothing to do with being impolite in your response to religious belief. It simply means that not only do you find religion to be false, but harmful.

Try not worrying so much about labels. You have your views, and you have your way of addressing the problems as you see fit. Why the need to put a stamp on it?

Well, we have to put something in the 'religious views' section, though I see you have successfully side-stepped this issue yourself. Did I just invalidate my own point? Er... maybe we just want to know if we put 'Anti-Theist' for religious views, will people automatically assume we're aggressively forcing atheism on everyone/we're just jerks in general? I didn't start this thread, but I was just wondering something along these lines as well. Dunno

Well, I didn't mean they all literally state it, although some certainly do. But it is implicit in their actions and discussion. I mean, on English radio they have a whole section where they look at things from a "faith perspective". Those are the exact words.

If you debate a theist long enough they eventually have to retreat behind, "I have faith", or else talk utter bullshit. Clearly they think this faith is a good thing, rather than just the pathetic excuse that it is.

This is how it all seems to me, anyhow Smile
