Melanie's marvelous measles

Nope. I still refuse to believe that anti-vaccination crowd can read.

Harsh but accurate. If you follow the advice of loons, especially when there is plenty of good advice on the issue, you risk disaster.

The NHL (yes, the professional hockey league) had to deal with a mumps epidemic a few months back. Mumps! This is what happens when you have a population that didn't live through stuff like smallpox and polio and starts to wonder if vaccinations are all that important. The nuts and the snake-oil salesmen show up and things go to hell.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

The part where people exist who are dumb enough not to vaccinate their kids isn't even the surprising part. I get that. How is being an anti-vaxxer legal? What happens when a restaurant doesn't meet the code for cleanliness? The place gets a warning or shut down. How is this any different with regards to public health and safety?
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

This is the thing! If it was just their kids it would be a simple matter of child abuse. But it's not, they're affecting everyone else by pissing the chance for herd immunity up the wall. You often see the analogy between vaccines and seat belts, a better one would be driving drunk, it's not just you, you endanger everyone else!

Ah, the Republicans are all over that one.

As a hopefully dad-to-be, this scares me as much as it angers me. We can't vaccinate babies until they've reached a certain age, and until then they are at the mercy of the herd.

Isn't vaccination supposed to help ward off the bug?

Yeah, you never feel fear like you feel it as a parent for your kids. You'd crawl over broken glass to spare them harm. And then this fucking nonsense endangers them!

And so it does. But it's not individually 100% effective, and younglings and immunocomprimised kids won't have had it. Herd immunity works even with vaccines which are only partially effective

Jesus, these assholes have thought of everything. I imagine they have a problem with seatbelts and traffic lights as well.

Seatbelts wrinkle suits.
Traffic lights force you to stop and go, thus wasting gas.
DUH!
