Menstruation, Turtles and Pigeons

Leviticus 15:29 KJV
"And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation."
Been discussing this particular bible bull with a colleague recently. How was this chapter supposed to apply in real life, when it mentions 'a woman' does that mean every woman or just a select few. Ignoring the overall sheer stupidity of the chapter, I was curious if they had mass turtle and pigeon breeding facilities just to keep up with the priests sacrificial requirement?
And what is the relevance of turtles and pigeons? Did they have loads of pigeons but then after realising they were running out, pick another creature at random. "What about them turtles, shall we use them?", "Yeh why not, no fucking use for anything else".
It really makes you wonder how the book writers originally came up with these fucked up ideas.
Perhaps Drich and GC can shed some light.

The pigeons I get, they poop on you. But the turtles, what did the turtles ever do to deserve this??

Do we really want to know what they have to say?

Do we really want to know what they have to say? I love 'em really. I just like to hear their take on things, whether this chapter should be taken literally or metaphorically is equally as baffling.

The fact that anyone could try and interpret this nonsense in such a way as to be meaningful today is laughable. You've got more chance with the never ending story

These are the verses around that particular verse.
Quote:24 “‘If a man has sexual relations with her and her monthly flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days; any bed he lies on will be unclean.
25 “‘When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her monthly period or has a discharge that continues beyond her period, she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her period. 26 Any bed she lies on while her discharge continues will be unclean, as is her bed during her monthly period, and anything she sits on will be unclean, as during her period. 27 Anyone who touches them will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.
28 “‘When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be ceremonially clean. 29 On the eighth day she must take two doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 30 The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the Lord for the uncleanness of her discharge.
I wonder what it did for a young woman's self esteem to have to isolate herself for several days each month because she was so unclean that even her entire family couldn't touch her? What was the purpose of such a rule if not to degrade women?
They must have had pigeon breeding facilities somewhere because wouldn't they kill off all their area's pigeons?

Yeah, menstruation is so unclean and sinful. Whatever sick mind would've created something like that...

Can't tell you how this solves the problem, but I can tell you how it all started.

Perhaps Drich and GC can shed some light. They didn't come up with these ideas. Rituals regarding uncleaniness, animals, sacrifices; puzzling practices such as these existed for at least a thousand years in larger Mesopotamia due probably to the whims of some eccentric tyrants fucking with their subjects' heads.

Better read the Endless Story thread, there at least you can ask the authors what they mean, and they'll simply tell you directly that it's made up.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
