Because teaching ACTUAL US history means that kids will learn that we did some mean things. Like slavery, and segregation, and the Japanese internment camps. And that would make us look bad. And kids would lose faith in 'Murica.

They actually might be trying to get ALL Advanced Placement classes removed from their course lists as a matter of law. They claim that AP classes are like common core, which they have already voted to get removed.

So not only are they getting rid of a course because it doesn't edit out all the things they don't like, but they are also considering removing Oklahoma students' ability to take college level classes in high school, which would in some cases dramatically increase college costs for the students who need it most.

I took AP Biology, English, Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, and History in high school. Had I gone to any school other than USNA, I would not have had to pay for those classes in college. These classes prepared me for the course load and course work. What a shame.

And this coming from the "no government influence" party. Unless it goes against your ideology. Then legislate away!

I agree. Being a citizen means you can be "proud" of the good deeds your country has done, but you shouldn't ignore the flaws. I have no problem pointing out mistakes my country has made

I'd agree if you changed the word "college" to "high school." Oklahoma has three good public universities, though I cringe to say it. The problem isn't the colleges. It's the fact that not enough people GO to them. And that so many that do drop out. I'm gonna bet a lot of voters only took high school US history, taught by Oklahoma republican idiots who skewed it to their perspective. They want to keep their delusions that America is perfect and above reproach. That it is lily white and christian and the pinnacle of civilization.

Granted the US history course I took in college I took in Missouri and transferred it to OK. So I don't know what they are teaching here. But I do know that they offer this course (I WANNA TAKE IT!!!!!):

Yes, I've heard that before. Patriots think they're jealous, but really they don't like hypocrites. America has done a lot of great things. It became a world power quite quickly. It has also done a lot of bad things, and if those bad things bother you then try not to do them. No one will be able to dig up dirt on you if you don't have dirt to dig up.

One thing I'm grateful for, specifically, in my life is that my parents took us to Iran, where I attended school for four years. Learning at a young age about the Mossadegh Affair, in which our CIA overthrew the legally elected socialist Prime Minister in 1953 -- followed shortly by seeing the 1978 Revolution up-close and personal -- made me question everything I was taught upon return to America, because everyone who hated Iran had no idea we'd inflicted an authoritarian regime on that nation and people. Most Americans had no idea that their hatred of us was justified. We propped up the Shah, we trained the SAVAK which helped keep him in power, and we got our just desserts for it.

I learned early that my country can be and often is wrong, and that has come to form my view of patriotism, which is that I love my country enough to speak up against its wrongdoings, in the hopes of making it a better place.
