Is your hair long or short right now?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

What about your parents? Were they accepting? Mine weren't but little by little I think they're getting there, my mum more than my dad though.
My father was not accepting. He eventually turned around, but his alcoholism makes it impossible for us to have a relationship.
My mother was fine with it, even though I was unable to speak with her until I was eighteen. I never contacted her until later in life, and she was perfectly fine with it; most likely because of the time we had lost to be with one another.

Which is worse? The religious condemning kind of homophobia, or the super masculine please-don't-stick-it-in-my-butt kind
“The larger the group, the more toxic, the more of your beauty as an individual you have to surrender for the sake of group thought. And when you suspend your individual beauty you also give up a lot of your humanity. You will do things in the name of a group that you would never do on your own. Injuring, hurting, killing, drinking are all part of it, because you've lost your identity, because you now owe your allegiance to this thing that's bigger than you are and that controls you.” - George Carlin

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad I know well what alcoholism can do to a person and a relationship.
I get on very well with both my parents - they love me and I love them - but it's still tense if we talk about it and I certainly couldn't parade a boyfriend in front of them. That's just the way it is and I have to accept it, but I still love them with all my heart.
Anyway it's nearly 2am for me now and I have a long Mafia game ahead of me tomorrow , so it's time for bed. It's been really nice chatting to you, and maybe we can carry on another day? Goodnight

They are probably just deep in the closet, possibly even to themselves. I personally don't worry about being around gay men and them attacking me or anything. So I think there must be something about the homophobes, that they are thinking too much about you sticking your penis in them. Either that, or they are just idiots.

There does seem to be something about masculinity that makes people personally offended somehow by other peoples lack of it, in a way that i'm not sure exists between straight women and lesbians, i don't think it's entirely down to repressed gay urges

I do not lack masculinity, but I understand to what you are referring.

What I'd like to know is why, if god has intended us to lie with other men, why didn't he give men asses as outstanding as those on women? No jiggle and wiggle? It isn't godly.

It is something funny going on, whatever it is. I am relatively manly myself, and I don't have a problem with gay men. I suspect one of my neighbors of being gay, and I don't give a rat's ass whether he is or isn't. He is a fine neighbor. That is what matters to me, not what his sexual preferences are.
(My wife says he is definitely gay, and I suppose I should just accept what she says, as I have exceptionally poor gaydar. But it just does not matter enough to me to come to any conclusion about his sexuality.)
