Sadly, I think I'm a poser now. I play mostly blues and folk these days, but I can still manage to get my forearm to shred when I'm so inclined to plug in.

I'm getting back into some old Mushuggah. Been listening to Destroy, Erase, Impove (or however those are ordered). Future Breed Machine!!!!!! \m/
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

I don't think playing blues and folk makes you a poser. Playing fake metal does.

What does everybody think of Advance and Vanquish by 3 Inches of Blood? I loved it. I didn't quite take it seriously when it came out but I grew to really appreciate it for hat it was.

I never bought another album by them after this, but I have checked out a few of their newer songs and found that they lost something.

Maiden is an amazing band - I love Powerslave - I know The Number Of The Beast is the most popular (and probably the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed) but Powerslave is just so powerful. Iron Maiden has another album coming up, and it will be released on September this year - If it's a kind of follow up to The Final Frontier it will be amazing - The song When The Wild Wind Blows is a masterpiece by Maiden and it's surprising they keep pushing great quality material after all these years. I think they did some experimentation but as opposed to Metallica they never really changed their British heavy metal style (I like to call it "traditional" or "classical" metal) and it's ok - It suits them. The Factor X era in the 90's is forgettable and honestly even for hardcore fans the albums aren't worth getting/buying. IMO, Bruce Dickinson is Maiden's best vocalist, but Paul Di'Anno was pretty good as well and I don't think Bruce can sing Phantom Of The Opera as well.

Metallica may release a new album in 2016 - It's not confirmed yet, but the probability of it happening in 2015 is very low. Kirk Hammett said that they were halfway trough in an interview and basically hinted that soon we would see Metallica's new album - But not too soon. I liked the direction they took with Death Magnetic more than the previous blues/hard rock era - If the new album is a sort of Death Magnetic II I will be satisfied, specially after all these years without new material (I was in the 9th grade when Death Magnetic was released and now I'm close to finishing college, it was some years ago). James Hetfield can still sing and his voice has become more melodic but he can't scream in older songs like he used to - Songs like One, Master Of Puppets and so on are not as good live as before. When I want to listen to Metallica live on youtube I usually pick concerts pre-1995 unless I'm listening to later or black album stuff. I don't know what Metallica intends to do - They're taking about 7 years to release a new album and soon they'll be, like most musicians, old and with less ideas - Not to mention the money they get usually doesn't put pressure to make more music, so I expect them to stop producing anytime, maybe even after this album or the one after it.

I don't agree with people who say Cliff is a bad drummer - He is not the best in the world, not even a very good one, but from what I hear drummers saying Metallica songs are meant to be easy to play in the drums - I think Metallica is less about trying to find an extremely superb Musician like it happens in some bands and more about enjoying what four great musicians can put together. James Hetfield is not very recognized outside of Heavy Metal and the only critically acclaimed Metallica member is Kirk since he was ranked several times as one of the best guitarists by magazines like Rolling Stone. Arguably we could say Ringo Starr was a bad drummer as well since he wasn't that good, he just happened to be good enough at what he did with the Beatles.

I never listened to a lot of Slayer, but lately I've been getting into them - They're probably the most extreme band I can listen too - The first album is good, but it needs a second listen to become enjoyable. I don't understand the link people make between Metallica and Slayer since they sound so different - Slayer is much heavier, faster and the lyrics are, obviously, a lot more controversial and shocking. They have a new album coming up as well. Anyone into Slayer? Care to give some hints for new listeners? Btw, if you want to piss off Christians on the internet just post a video of the song "The Antichrist".

I've never been a fan of Black Sabbath - First of all, I admit they created Heavy Metal, but they're not the only artist that deserves credit for it - Bands like The Beatles experimented with heavier sounds (just listen to Twist And Shout) that would later be repeated and emphasized by other bands and thus Metal came to exist. Metal is essentially heavier rock, it is rock, only that it formed a very large and individualized subculture. Without Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Judas Priest, Metal wouldn't exist or it would suck. I think Black Sabbath sounds great instrumentally - My only problem is - Ahem - That I think Ozzy can't sing properly and when he does it's just not enjoyable (Waiting for haters).

I've never listened to a lot of Anthrax but one day I need to do it. Megadeth is not a band I listen to a lot as well, but some particular songs and albums are appealing (like Countdown To Extinction) - I've explored Megadeth more than Anthrax, but not as much as I'd like to.

AC/DC has catchy songs but they're not my cup of tea - Eventually it will sound repetitive and I dislike Brian Johnson as a vocalist and how his singing style sounds. To be fair, I don't like Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose tone as well, but it is a little better and becomes enjoyable. Bon Scott (former vocalist of AC/DC) was considerably better and I enjoy their earlier stuff more, though it's still not a band I listen to a lot. It's A Long Way To The Top is the only song from AC/DC that I would consider memorable.

Guns N' Roses are good, but it depends on my mood. I don't like them as much as I used to, and I think both Axl Rose and Slash are overrated as musicians - If the band hadn't split up they could have become absolutely legendary musicians (I know they kinda are already but they could have passed Led Zeppelin). Civil War is my favourite song by them.

Led Zeppelin is great - It just is, no more words to add.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

Powerslave was probably the best Maiden album of that era. When it was shiny and new, Piece of Mind blew me away but it seems a bit tired now, unlike Powerslave and Number of the Beast.

The two albums featuring Blaze Bayley were... well, they aren't really worth listening to. Why they hired that guy, I have no idea - he wasn't even close to capable of carrying the same range as Bruce. Then again, even Bruce can't carry the same range that he used to be able to. Tongue

Oh well, I can't really contribute much to the heavy metal discussion. The closest thing to heavy metal I listen to are folkish/pagan metal things or heavy metal leaning trash. For me it's mostly thrash and death in all its incarnations. I do like the earlier Black Sabbath with Ozzy though, I think he has a very recognizable sound which I really like.

I saw Saxon live a few times, they are cool live nowadays, although I think the production of their new album sounds way too tame, as if they still had the same producers as in 1980. If they'd transport the same feeling they have on stage on the album, I might even buy it.
