Iceland makes blasphemy legal

RE: Iceland makes blasphemy legal
Anusius is confused by that one . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

That word has more than one meanung.

But it was an empty threat anyhow because...

Það eru engar Guð
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psalm 14, KJV revised edition

RE: Iceland makes blasphemy legal
I am glad I did not say the wrong things when I was in Iceland before.  I had no idea that they had blasphemy laws when I was there.

But my normal approach when visiting foreign lands works well.  I do not tend to talk about religion when I am abroad, and I do not tend to talk about local politics either.  I know that most places do not have the same freedom of speech laws of the U.S., and tend to try to avoid controversial matters.  I am not visiting other countries for any of those purposes, and so it is easy enough for me to avoid problems most of the time.  Also, there are some countries that I would never visit, as I would not feel safe in them at all, which is another way to avoid problems when traveling abroad.  (Every now and then, one reads an article about some serious problems that people run into in some primitive backwater, and, most of the time, while thinking it is terrible what is happening to the unfortunate people, I also am thinking that they were extremely stupid going to that country and doing what they did there.  For example, going to a country that has the death penalty for illegal drugs and then using illegal drugs there is the action of a moron, even though there ought not be such penalties for such things.)

I am glad of the change for Iceland, even though I have no particular plans for going there again.  I also have no plans on trying to avoid Iceland, either, and this change only makes Iceland more attractive.

Iceland's parliament has abolished its blasphemy laws, despite opposition from some of the country's churches.
The bill said it was "essential in a free society that the public can express themselves without fear of punishment".

Seems to me they just legalized bigotry upon all peoples. Not good.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

You are wrong.  They have just stopped enforcing bigotry.  One man's heresy is another man's religion.  Now there is freedom for people to express their religious views, whereas before, one could not do so if one were not in line with one of the recognized religions.

You, being a Christian, ought to appreciate this, as Christianity was at one time not mainstream, and would, under Icelandic-type blasphemy laws, have been illegal to be publicly expressed.

Technically this also allows Christians to insult non-Christian religions now. I'd have thought this would be something you would approve of.

Don't get your hopes on, making blasphemy legal does not erase hate speech laws that encompass any characteristic you can incite hate against, like race, gender and also religion. It's like abolishing a law saying you can go to jail for smoke weed while keeping another saying you can go to jail for doing drugs.
