Meh.
What do you mean by marriage is a useless concept? Are you referring to lifelong monogamy with another person as being useless, or are you referring only to the title of being married and the legal benefits, etc?

Yep. It's a simple concept. And as a general rule, having sex with more people will always increase your chances of having sex with someone who has an STD, regardless of whether you're married or not. I just think it's important for the government to not encourage that sort of thing by giving polyamorous relationships the same legal benefits/etc as "regular" marriages.

I don't think that that interest is so compelling that it justifies the government abrogating the First Amendment right to freedom of association.

As for the title and the legal benefits, I might as well be married to a person of opposite sexual attraction, say, like a best friend - that makes more sense, doesn't it?. Why does it have to be someone I shag?

Well the idea is you have children with a person and then you stay with that person, and together, preferably in the same home, you raise those children. Don't you think it is beneficial to society for children to be raised in a stable home with both parents?

Quote:For all of you who are married, were married, wish you were married or wish you were not married,
this is something to smile about the next time you see a bottle of wine:
Fred was driving home from one of his business trips, in Northern Arizona ,
when he saw an elderly Navajo man walking on the side of the road.
As the trip was a long and quiet one, he stopped the car and asked the Navajo man if he would like a ride.
With a silent nod of thanks, the Indian got into the car.
Resuming the journey, Fred tried - in vain - to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo man.
The old man just sat silently, looking intently at everything he saw, studying every
little detail, until he noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Fred.
"What in bag?" asked the old man.
Fred looked down at the brown bag and said: "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my wife."
The Navajo man was silent for another moment or two.
Then, speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, he said:
"Good trade . . ..."

I know what the idea is, I just don't agree with it. Anyway, marriage and uncontrolled bearing of children will only make things worse once we substantially improve our life spans or/and run into trouble with the resources. You only need look at China to know what the future is, in this sense.
Or maybe we'll just create Superintelligence and suddenly God will be there to save us, for the first time in the history of the(known) universe.

Or maybe we'll just create general A.I. and God will then literally be there to save us, for the first time in the history of the(known) universe. So there's that, also.
So just to clarify, as a general rule, you don't think it's better for society for children to be raised in a stable home with both parents?

Or maybe we'll just create strong Artificial Intelligence(or AGI) and God will then literally be there to save us, for the first time in the history of the(known) universe. So there's that, also.
Another question in regards to the bolding... does this mean you think the bearing of children should be "controlled?" If so, how?
