The one about all atheists being devilishly handsome - that one's true...
Welcome.

Looking forward to some discussions.

Welcome. Looking forward to the free exchange of ideas.

My name is Divinity, and I'm 40 something years old, and I'm a believer in god, but not a believer in religion. I think all those religious texts are full of nonsense. I wouldn't so much say I defy labels, as I just have no freaking clue what label fits me. I believe in the divinity of Jesus, but I don't believe that everything written about him that he supposedly said was actually said by him. I have five grown children who are all atheists. I don't believe any of the ridiculous things some believers think about atheists (There's good atheists, and bad atheists, etc..) Most Christian communities are like talking to... sheep. All I hear is bah bah bah. So I decided to to join an Atheist community. I'm not here to convert people. I don't believe that non-belief in god is something that sends you to hell. I admit that such an idea is pretty stupid, and very much reminiscent of a con artists ploy to religion (and part of why I don't believe in religion)
Welcome!

Deist might describe me better. Hell if I know. Never understood the term. My Christian activities are limited to celebrating Christmas and Easter and making sure my children and grandchildren are taken care of.

Anything's possible. I have an open mind.

Welcome to sanity central...
Damn right!
And I actually had to raise six, since my parents left my younger sister to me. I did it mostly alone too, since my asshole husband left me. Which I should have seen coming. Some people might say "god was testing you," but that'd make him a pretty shitty god. What kind of god would say "This woman needs to be tested! I know, I'll have her husband leave her for a younger woman. She's not yet 30 years old, and has five kids plus a sister to raise. Let's see how she handles it!" I'd say I handled it pretty damn well, but if that's god's idea of a 'test' then I want to know where the hell my ex-husbands test is.

Welcome, you sound a bit like an old friend of mine who once told me, “I would be an atheist but I'm afraid god would be pissed.”
I still smile every time I think of that.

Welcome aboard, Divinity!
You sound interesting... just some residual belief in a god... a Jesus... and what else is in there?
Raising 5 kids to become atheists - You go girl!
As for your husband... yeah... shit happens - look at it from his perspective: a 30yo woman who's popped out 5 kids plus having to deal with those 5 kids VS one cute 20yo? ah.... middle-life crisis is hitting me hard!
But, on the plus side, he now does his own laundry. I guarantee! I know these things

If you believe in the divinity of Jesus, you're not quite a Deist though, no?
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Welcome!
Sorry to hear about your shitty ex. My first hubby was like that as well, though we had no kids.
I hope you find your time on this forum enjoyable!
