Atheist and the Death penalty
Is there a common view among Atheist about the Death Penalty? Is everyone different and matters like this solely personal? On passive/ aggressive where would most Atheist fall? Just asking.
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

Why would there be? Being an atheist only makes one statement - I don't believe in god(s). It doesn't cover my political or social views or my set of values.

I'm against it, but that won't take you any further as accepting this individuals opinion.

Statistically, the majority will probably be in the against camp because there is a correlation between religiosity, political conservatism and old testament revenge fantasies, but certainly not close to all of them will be against it. Believing in an afterlife and divine justice after death might let a death penalty seem less severe, while atheists might have to think a bit harder about what the consequences are without the afterlife as a failsafe. But atheism itself has nothing to do with the death penalty, why would it.

There's recently been a thread on the death penalty. Skimming through it will tell you that the opinions differ. We only share the lack of belief in god, so go figure

I believe there are some people that shouldn't be living and that contribute nothing good to society.

Serial Killers for example.

But are you in favour of the death penalty?

The red states... Big Grin  are noted as

"Retainers of the death penalty in law and practice - 36 (18%)"

We choose to put ourselves in with some wonderful company, eh?

I am vehemently against it. Rehabilitation should be the primary goal if at all possible.

The state killing someone is a very final end and something I am not comfortable with.
