Howdy from Texas!

RE: Howdy from Texas!
Howdy and welcome, stranger. Grab some grits and gravy and enjoy the show.
I would more generally advocate that one only leave one entrance into their mind(reason), and keep the rest of it rather closed, as it is one hell of a lot easier to shovel shit in than it is to get it out.

If the evidence and reason for you to believe something isn't really any better than the reason you should believe some rural farmer from Arkansas got anally probed by interstellar visitors, then you probably shouldn't.

I'm currently living in Texas due to Air Force demands. Welcome to the forums!

A fellow service member? I'm assuming you're at Lackland in san antonio? So what brings a catholic into an atheist forum? Life too easy in the air force and needed some excitement?  Wink  Big Grin

Close!

But we're actually 3 hours west of that lol. We are at Laughlin in Del Rio Texas. My husband is an Air Force pilot, and I'm a bored stay at home wife looking for some good discussion  lol. Thank you for your service, sir!  Big Grin
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Name's Brian, I'm an atheist of twenty years or so. Openly for the last 2 or 3. Skimmed through a few posts already and like what I'm seeing so far. A little about me; I'm a marine corps veteran of 6 years, gear head, gun nut, no stranger to forums. Interested to see what the demographic is like 'round these parts. Generally I'd say I'm not your "normal" atheist but my perception of such gets changed on an almost daily basis and I guess that's one of the reasons why I am here. I love seeing non-believers from all walks of life. Anyways, looking forward to interacting with all ya'll so don't be a stranger ya hear?!  Big Grin
Welcome. I have a question for you since you say your in the marine corps, how do you feel when people say there are no atheists in foxholes?

I am a combat veteran. OEF 2011 Kabul, Afghanistan to be exact. And to "those people" who say the above i respond with: I know many a non-believing combat survivor. In fact i know quite a few that after seeing and doing the things they saw and did, they came to the conclusion that their can not be a god. I can't speak for them but for me i will say that after my deployment it opened my eyes to the world. Seeing the things that people would do in the name of a so called "peaceful religion" just because they didn't agree with our way of life disgusted me. It actually led me to come out as an atheist whereas before i remained quiet just for ease of day to day life. Though now I'm of the opinion that being atheist is not something that should be hidden.

It was going to Afghanistan that turned my brother into an atheist.

Of course, according to my own mother, it was my fault...

Lol meet Minimalist.

Welcome, Brian!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
