I go to a Christian school too, there are endless opportunities and situations where I could drop the logic bomb on people. I get legitimately mad sometimes hearing them(Teachers/Authority figures) explain Christianity, and being forced to pretend like they are telling the truth. The other day my English teacher started talking to a student who was doing something good(forget what lead up to it) but the student was talking to another student about how she thought Jesus's message was to love everyone and homosexuals should be treated the same as everyone, which is a wonderful claim to hear from anyone whether you are religious or not.

Yet my English teacher comes in and interrupts their conversation and starts pointing out how in the bible it says Homosexuality is wrong and how the student needed to show her EVIDENCE THAT WASN'T THE CASE FOR HER TO BELIEVE IT. I was so furious, I didn't want to even explain why she was wrong I just wanted to punch her in the face.


I didn't tell her why she was wrong though, or do anything about it. Although a lot of people on the outside would say "You should tell them why they are wrong" I never do. The English teacher was an extreme example, but I've learned to deal with "playing along" to false claims. Everyone at the school is very nice regardless of their beliefs, and any time they talk about their beliefs it's never in a hostile evangelical way. For this reason, out of respect for their beliefs, I haven't even told hardly anyone i'm atheist. I figure it wouldn't matter if I was right or wrong, if I attempted to disprove their beliefs they would simply get annoyed and inadvertently start disliking me. I also realize that I am an atheist going to a CHRISTIAN school so even if I am right, i'm not necessarily in a position to call bullshit on everything and be constantly verbally denying their opinions. It's also a hell of a lot more lenient than the public school I switched from(Where I had to deal with all the arrogant jackasses, bullies and such). People are way nicer and less judgemental, therefore i'll let them believe what they want out of respect and not start attacking them because of it.

PS: interesting story! I like to point out to Christians that the bible says man to man sex is a sin, but it says nothing about homosexuality. It seems that religious bigots don't understand the difference between sexuality and sexual acts. Religion tends to get in the way of learning things.

Don’t worry about the story, this is a discussion forum, open up as much as you please.

Yes, I know how you feel about wanting to drop logic bombs on people, but unfortunately, 99.9% of the people that are brainwashed, are completely immune to logic bombs. I, also, get legitimately mad when people start bashing gay people. There’s a few people in my family that love to do it, and they are legitimately getting angry about it for the opposite reason that we do. I, also, have to hold it in as well, because I still have people in my circle that believe that primitive way of thinking is correct.

You have every right to be angry at the teacher, and I’d have the exact same feeling of wanting to punch her as well, but that’s her job at that christian school.. to be an idiot. You are also right that being in a christian school, that you are the minority, and that’s what people are going to believe, and opening up about your true beliefs to even one person, could be very detrimental to your situation. Many people would probably talk about you, or people that you know may turn against you, because they don’t fully understand their own beliefs yet. School is great at being very exclusionary to people, so I’d recommend going on with the charade as long as you can. So, if you can handle keeping your mouth shut, you probably should, especially if most of the kids are nice and respectful, but that could change if they found out that you were an atheist. I’d normally recommend being honest about yourself (almost everyone in my little circle doesn’t know that I’m an atheist, hopefully that’ll change someday), but being dependent on your parents (not sure how they would react) and being surrounded by christians, it probably is best if you can learn to show people respect as long as they show you respect. If they’re a dick, try your best to avoid them.

You sound like a great free-thinker for your age, don’t let the christian bullshit get in the way of that. Also, if they teach science, try to double check it on a non-christian website, or run it by us on here, if it sounds like bullshit to you. I hope you stick around the forums. Have a good day.
