When I was in college back in the seventies, we had a huge winter storm shut down campus for a week. We had 27" of snow on the ground, and even the campus police couldn't get out to patrol. So classes were cancelled, and everyone was out building snowmen and tubing. A friend of mine and I decided to walk accross campus to the grocery store before all the shelves were empty. When we reached the student center, there was a preacher in the square spouting fire and brimstone, surrouded by a lot of students, most of whom were apparently from the football team. As we passed by, we realised that these guys all had snowballs in their hands held behind their backs. I looked at my friend and said "maybe we should get out of here". So we started running. I decided to stop and look back, and the sky was full of snowballs. I never saw that preacher there again. lol True story.

Should you find yourself in a situation involving this type of Christian:
1. Ask the Christian for his/her Bible.
2. Locate and read (out loud) Matthew 6:5. http://goo.gl/mk1Qc
3. Watch the magic happen! Have you ever actually used this method? If you have I would be interested in hearing how the preacher responded. I don't see how it would stop anyone from preaching.
For once I agree with you Theo. This would be far more effective.

Huh? How is Matthew 6:5 supposed to shut him up...?

Good point!
Surely the preacher would point out the 'obvious'; That he is preaching, not praying. I understand these to be two completely seperate acts? One private, One Public.

Yep, that was the point I was going to get at. Glad you caught it. Cheers.

Indeed, to think of one when being told of the other requires a civilized sense of irony and embarrassment which would have prevented the preacher from taking up so reprobate a calling as street preaching in the first place.
