I take issue with that statement. You name two excellently written villians that are ment to characterize some of the worse in humanity and how we are flawed despite our best intentions ( Vader wenting to keep his love alive after seeing many friends die brutal deaths, valdermorts drive to overcome his abusive upbringing and be the best he can be) in both cases they were initially consumed by this desire and the sacrifices they made to get there allowed them to be manipulated into what they eventually became. We remember them because we see some of them ourselves. You cannot say the same about the Christian God.

You might not see humanity in god, but I do. I see jealously. Arbitrariness. Fear of competition and lack of control (Babel) . Favoritism. Not to mention self contentedness and desire for approval. Oh and a maniacal desire to torture others.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Got any evidence for this claim? Real, testable, verifiable evidence. Not second-hand (at best) accounts of what some iron age goat herders claim their cousin's wife's sister saw.
