I have a hard time understanding the blind spot the west has over exactly how multilayered resentment over the west's nearly unconditional support  for Israel since 1956 forms the much of the basement and foundation upon which the superstructure of modern Islamism is built.

The key word being unconditional. I always keep saying, support them when they're actually attacked. Don't support them for wanting to have it all. It seems the only way that their ruling rightwingers move their asses to the negotiation table with some serious compromises in their bags.

Himmler is probably the first one to think he could kill all the Jews so there there will be no one left to accuse him. His predecessors simply though they could kill the Jews within their reach, and Jews elsewhere would be too powerless to accuse them in any harmful way.

No, really, he broke new ground.   Previously murderousness was always local.  Only expulsion was ever attempted on a national scale.   Germany was the first to actually conceive of extermination on a continental scale.   Nor was the effort limited to the Jews.  Gypsies would have been killed at the same time.   All the poles, Russians and Ukrainians were also intended to be worked, abused, and starved to death over a longer period, 20-30 years, so no descendants would remain to ever contest the seized lebensraum in the distant future.

Many empires have been spectacularly brutal in their conquests.  I can't think of another which quite clearly intended to kill everyone it conquered so its own population can gain undisputed possession. Nazi Germany really is significantly set apart from the normal continuum of murderousness.

That's probably because up until the formation of modern Israel, the Muslims most often treated the Jews better and with less frequent deadly intent than the followers of the savior and the prince of peace.
