Every Student Succeeds Act, passed and to be signed by Obama

The Every Student Succeeds Act, according to The New York Times, represents “the end of an era in which the federal government aggressively policed public school performance, and returning control to states and local districts.” But for all the breathless hype, the legislation seems unlikely to produce many changes that are actually visible on the ground.The Senate on Wednesday approved the Every Student Succeeds Act, the bill that will reauthorize the nation’s 50-year-old omnibus education law and make the “pretty-much-universally despised” No Child Left Behind obsolete.

First off the phrase "no child left behind" sounds real creepy when their are pervert priests leaving no child's behind alone but aside from that this is yet another example of the rather silly American penchant for attaching high-sounding titles to laws which will effectlvely do next to nothing.  What did it do?  It allows congressmen to pat themselves on the back which is about all that matters these days.

It sounds like the law does a few things:

-Stops tying teacher performance to student success.
-Expands access to high-quality pre-school
-I believe it also reduces the number of standardized tests kids take (and they really do take too many)

They need to get rid of common core while they're at it. It ignores the fact that not all students learn the same way, and not all teachers teach the same way.

If they really want to fix schools, they need teacher input. Instead they get together in a room and try out what they can, then pin the blame on us when it doesn't work.
