Thanks for the site enjoyed the read and it says much the same as the material I found, the material I used was a Dvd "The Star Of Bethlehem" by Rick Larson. Larson in this Dvd carried the astronomy even farther, to Christ's death. The slack GC Slack must be in reference to my comments to Min. Min and I poke at each other quite often, on my part it's not that serious, mostly having fun to get a rise out of him. All in all Min is probably a good guy thats older like myself and can be cranky at times like me. If and I say if you are interested in the Dvd the fastest way I know to obtain it is at a christian book store, I believe that you would find it quite interesting since Larson carries it to Christ death. Want you to know that I'm not doing this to convert anyone, I'm presenting what I believe to be the truth and eveyone must determine for their self what they want to believe. Again thanks for the read and research to find it.
I also know that I'm a terrible writer, speller, user of correct wording and much more, lot better at verbal conversation, guess you'll just have to over look my bad writing at times.

so how come no other cultures have recorded this astrological phenomenon at this period in time?Angel

Interesting approach, using astrology to prove a myth.

Oh, and how come this date is not widely accepted by Christian scholars? Are they all really stupid or just not real Christians? As far as I'm aware, there is no consensus. Dates vary from 2 bce to 7bce,with 5bce being commonly accepted.

It's always bemused me that Christians don't actually know the date (or year) of Jesus' birth or death. Didn't anyone ever think of just asking his mother?

PS: I also think it's not unreasonable to expect Miriam to remember the date of the annunciation. After all it's not every day a young girl of 12 or 13 receives a personal visit from an angel of the Lord. You'd think it might stick in her mind.

From Wiki on Jesus' possible year of birth.

Quote:There is no contemporary historical evidence demonstrating the date of Jesus’ birth. The common Gregorian calendar method for numbering years, in which the current year is 2011, is based on an early medieval attempt to count the years from a point of reference — namely, Jesus’ birth — which Dionysius Exiguus placed, either mistakenly or intentionally, sometime between 2 BC/BCE and 1 AD/CE.[42] The Gospel of Matthew states Jesus’ birth occurred during the reign of Herod the Great, who died in 4 BC/BCE,[43] but also with the intimation that Jesus may have been as much as two years old when Herod ordered the Massacre of the Innocents, and therefore that he may have been even older at the time of Herod's death. The Gospel of Luke similarly points to Jesus’ birth as having occurred during the reign of Herod the Great (i.e., sometime between 37 and 4 BC/BCE), but the author of Luke also describes the birth as taking place during the first census of the Roman provinces of Syria and Iudaea, which is generally believed to have occurred in 6 AD/CE.[44] Most scholars generally assume a date of birth between 6 and 4 BC/BCE.[45] Other scholars assume that Jesus was born sometime between 7–2 BC/BCE and died sometime between 26–36 AD/CE.[46][47][48][49][50] Additional evidence uncovered in 1923 by archeologists digging in the ruins of a Roman Temple near Ankara, Turkey points to 8 BC based on descriptions of three empire-wide censuses, one of which occurred in 8 BC.[51][vague]

You might want to read the link KichigaNeko posted above it is very interesting and free, if you are not opposed to putting out a little cash you can purchase the Dvd I metioned in my post.

Reasonable?

Quote:Rome had just fought a third war with the Jews that began in about 60 AD, and although they won the war, they knew full well that Rome could not survive another war with them, unless they could be defeated from within, using a “divide and conquer” strategy.

This person may know something about astronomy but clearly hasn't got a fucking clue about military or political reality in the first century AD. For the record the Romans crushed Jewish rebellions in 120 and 135 AD, too.

Reasonable?

The words "it is assumed" are used quite often as are "the assumption is" and "I would assume"
These are what make it "reasonable" reading.

Has anyone read any of Maurice Cotterell's works on the Pyramids of Giza or the Mayan Prophecies??
Again..interesting theories ...but.

Quote:You are correct about the magi coming from Babylon and they did see His star in the east, Min all stars rise in the east and set in the west and following the star it would have lead them west (seems these guys are wiser than you dude) because Jerusalem is west of Babylon. The star which was actually Jupiter "the king planet" was setting in the west over Jerusalem ever night of there journey as observed from the direction of Babylon and did stop over Bethleham on Dec. 25 of 2BC when one observed it from Jerusalem, it's that retrograde motion thing I mentioned earlier. Yes the day we celebrate in the giving of gifts and the birth of Christ. Now when you stop laughing call NASA and ask them to run the Starry Night program they use, giving the dates of June the 17th of 2BC til Dec. 25 of 2BC as viewed from Babylon and let them tell you what Jupiter does during those nights and then just swallow it, bet it will taste bitter to you.

Like I said, G-C, you will accept any silly shit and fall to your knees thinking that your fairy tales have been saved.

However:

Matthew 2,2 says:

"2Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. "

Nothing about following it to the west, it just says the star was "in the east" (unless you are reading from the gospel of G-C!) but even more to the point if you are in Babylon and see a dot of light in the sky why the fuck would you assume it is over Jerusalem? Why not Athens...or Rome...or Carthage or Alexandria.

BTW, I couldn't help but notice that you also avoided the image of the 3 bozos trotting along while this horseshit "star" of yours floated over their heads and took them to Bethlehem. I'm not surprised. Xtians usually ignore what embarrasses them.

As far as history goes, Herod died in 4 BC when Publius Quintillius Varus was governor of Syria. Varus, whose term began in 6 BC when his predecessor, Gaius Sentius Saturninus' term ended. Three years was common and it was Varus who crushed the revolts which broke out on Herod's death.

Like all the stories of your godboy, this is nothing more than fictional shit. Just like walking non water or driving out demons.

Min, Min, Min, what's a person to do, I showed how dates were determined by two different scientific methods and that both methods agree with the dating and yet you still think I do not do my research or that this research is trust worthy. Mathmatics and astronomy are two extremely accurate sciences and I've chosen to believe them, you accuse me of not testing what I believe with methods you approve of but when I do you still reject the findings. History is being rewritten every year because new info is being discovered, history is very vunerable in the sense that it depends on evidence not yet discovered and being a history buff you of all people should know this. I do understand that some of history is fixed in time because of the large amount of data that we have on a person or event, that all changes the futher we go back in time because the amount of data is very small and it can be misqouted or interperted as you often say. The sciences of math and astronomy are sound no matter how much time has passed. So what am I to do when you will not accept science from me either.

You would not know "science" if it bit you on the ass.

You take your fucking fairy tales, ASSUME THEY ARE TRUE, and then concoct any horseshit story you like to make it seem as if they are right.

They are not.

They are bullshit.

Certainly not by the likes of you and your silly fairy tales.

You know, Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star by dropping a bomb down an unshielded aperture causing a chain reaction in its reactor. Very scientific.

And also total fiction just like your fucking god stories.
