We try to help you find some commonality with us, to understand our position, which is no different than your own with regards to all of those gods you don't believe in.  You think of them the -same- way we do, and by happy circumstance the same way we think of yours.  

We do this, because it's clear that appeals to reason don't work.

If we are hard-wired to believe in god, it shows that atheism is abnormal and god made it easier for us to believe in him, so he must be real.
If we are not hard-wired to believe in god, the fact that so many people believe in him shows that the evidence for god is so strong that he must be real.

Far more likely is that 1) it was evolutionarily advantageous to ascribe human characteristics to non-human objects, 2) it was evolutionarily advantageous to fill in gaps to complete patterns, and 3) early humans ascribed human characteristics to the gaps in the patterns they saw around them.

Except that I didn't set up a fork; I asked in one question WHY it would be evolutionarily advantageous for us to have this wiring.

Hmm.  Not sure how to take that.  I have been told so many times that "you haven't heard god's voice because you weren't praying the right way, or for the right things, or in the right receptive state of mind, or . . .       all of that BS.  I prayed quite fervently for well over 40 years.  You would think even a moron like me would get it right once.

It's not an argument for atheism. It establishes the fact that monotheists are atheistic with respect to all the other gods created by humanity and is often deployed when a theist feigns ignorance when given the actual reason for someone's atheism.
