U.S. Presidents & The Natural-born-citizen Clause

(February 5, 2016 at 5:50 pm)Rhythm Wrote: IDK, but consider this......the clause exists to protect against foreign influence..not sleazeballery.....and one of the coolest brits I'm aware of..who just immigrated and has for as long as I;ve know him made comments that make me think he'll be a great USian, left a comment -in this thread- that amounted to;

"that's not how we do it in the foreign country I came from".

Yup, that's exactly the sorts of foreign influence the clause exists to nullify, and hilariously it's coming from -precisely- the sort of person the clause exists in paranoia of, lol.  He's a 21st century "imperial candidate".

That's coming from a non-sleazeball who isn't a flight of fancy that -has- expressed political aspirations.  I'd vote for him before I'd vote for me, but I still don't know why he would be , or why I should make him (if I could), eligible.  He's already said something, as innocent as it is, as true as it is, that makes me doubt his fitness to be "1st Citizen", The Commander in Cheif of our armed forces, and the weilder of executive order and presidential veto.  Not even in office yet, and already talking about how they do shit "back home".

The American way has been a broken system for a long time, mass interference's and interdependence from America money has caused more problems then it's fixed. By committing the actions we have has made more enemies over the last 20 years then fixed problems. I've pointed this out many times over, the big boy countries have far more educated people then we do, if you are a true victim of the education system then I'm sorry for you. Sitting in massive student loan debt, most of the Universities that are of any note worthy are to costly even with grants and good luck finding a federally backed loan. That branch of the system is run privately on a for-profit system. We can't even brake away from the religious systems that has been a burden for a painfully long time. Think about it, if we had a other F.D.R in office big donors would be cut off from buying elections and give back some of power we once had over our government.

FDR was a great 'murican.  He didn't have any eligibility problems on that count.  Obviously an american -can- be found and -has- been found in the past that would achieve what you think we should set ourselves to achieving.  Meanwhile, the sort of problem which the clause seeks to prevent exists, even in this thread.

As an american, -I- have come to the conclusion that other countries have better systems for this that and the other..but I don't buttress any of that with "that aint how we do it back in tha swamp".   The problem isn't a recognition that others do better than us, it's the clear affinity for "home"...a place other than the one you are currently the president of, and a clear affinity for their laws over the laws you have (or will be) sworn to uphold.

The clause is not a condemnation of others systems of governance, or their body of laws.  We're not saying "you can't be pres because you come from a place with shitty laws and we're better than that"...we just want to know that the president of the US is super fucking duper american.  We have a low bar for that, when you think about it.  1st gen children of immigrants are a go for potus, and thus a go, conceptually, for who we consider to be "american beyond reproach".

What? Of course it's not irrelevant. The constitution can be changed you know.

I can think of any number of things that need to be changed first.... and will not be.

Yep let's start with the spying by federal government on the worlds citizens for one. Second we need to end the private prison industry, third make pot legal, and then we can start to tackle other issues.

Legalize pot ranks third? I don't disagree with it, but pot legalization is the left's abortion and gay marriage issue compared to all the other shit that needs to be fixed.

It's double win, a lot of people are in prison for pot, once it has become legal a lot of people will getting out of prison freeing the space for people that really need to be there and it would strike a major blow to private prison's. They would have start gathering up all the financial people guilty of a number of crimes in that bracket. Think about it, a large percentage of the welfare frauds(You know the one's I'm talking about, driving a recently bought high end luxury vehicles and still on government assistance, and those claiming kids that are not there own). This would also have a somewhat major side-effect, for people who owe a lot in back taxes to IRS, they would be found very rapidly and sent to prison to get system back online again.

Um, no.

How about:

1.  Dump the electoral college.
2.  End the nonsense of having tiny shit states having the same number of senators as states like California.
3.  Requiring Congress to declare war before troops can be committed to foreign locations.

Those are great ideas as well but, let's start with small victories then work our way to up to winning the war. The type of changes your talking about be much harder to accomplice and take an expensive over hall to do. If our idea's combined forces they would free up the money needed to get changing the way our governing body was structured.

You don't need constitutional amendments to do what you want.  Plain old laws will work fine.

While we are amending the constitution though we could repeal the 2d and 3d amendments to the Bill of Rights.

I'm confused, you think that plain old law wont do what you want to do there too?
