Correcting grammar is racist.
RE: Correcting grammar is racist.
There is still white privilege in the UK. There is far more racism against immigrants from Pakistan by white people than racism against white people by immigrants from Pakistan. There is a reason why so many people with brown skin get lumped together and get abbreviated as "Pakis", because there is far more racism against brown-skinned immigrants than racism against white people in the UK. White privilege exists everywhere that white people are the majority.

There is racism against majorities, but it's always far worse for minorities.

I imagine that the act of correcting grammar can be a classist or racist act e.g. if one does it specifically in order to dismiss e.g. speakers of certain sociolects and their ideas and issues based on that. It's often done, I just did it in another thread, in a way.

I think people who call anyone vaguely brown a "paki" tend to be of such low education and exposure to anyone not white that it loses all offensiveness tbh.

I've seen Non-Muslim Indians (who I can always tell a mile away aren't Pakistanis) called it, members of my family (Maltese) called it, even my Brazilian friend (black, but fair-skinned with straightened hair) got call it. They're seriously too fucking numbskulled to tell a Pakistani apart from a non-Pakistani.

I don't think it's inherently racist

I think it becomes problematic when people throw shade at African American Vernacular English, and then ignore all the white dialects of English that are equally as grammatically incorrect. It's not problematic if you're a grammar nazi with everyone. It's the double standard for black people.

Tbh I'd say it's more of a classism issue than a race issue.

Ah so it's not really referring to correcting grammar. Just disliking how "black people" talk. Except not all black people talk like that. I don't like it anymore or less than redneck speech. My dislike is really only in that I have a hard time understanding it. I never correct people....except my own kids. I correct them.

I have been known to dismiss someone completely based on my assumption that only speaking in texty talk means they're not very smart. It might be wrong, but it's not racist. I suppose it could be for some people but it seems weird to me.

And of course, if something seems racist to someone, that's very different to the person actually being racist.

I could accidentally say something that seems racist to some people. I hope I never do but if I did it wouldn't make me racist. However, of course, once I had been informed that what I said made me look racist, I'd stop doing it and feel bad about it even though I know I'm not racist.

Yet, the outrage ensues.

Any statistics?

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I'm not saying there aren't any but I've been to the government website nothing I can see there, I found a newspaper article saying more white people are killed in England from murders involving racism than minorities but no other info
I'm on my phone though and admittedly it's not as quick as my PC

Finding stats based on race for the uk is hard. Yeesh
According to The Guardian almost half of "racial murders" are of white people. (But that was in 2006)
According to Wikipedia white people make up around 80% of the population.

So 20% of the population making up half of the "racial murder" victims.

I don't know what the heck a racial murder is though. The whole thing about white privilege is just the privilege of being less likely to be murdered in general. It's not about racism or racial murders. It's just being statistically less likely to be murdered.
