At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Now that you brought this up in another thread I'll answer it, you uncaring moron. No one can know how God will answer prayer so any study is just an assumption at best and yes I have seen prayer work and guess what your assumptions don't change a thing.

First of all, shit for brains, I care a hell of a lot more than you, I've actually gone out and done work to help others, given my precious time and sweated for others. Unlike you I don't have conversations with the voices in my head and spew to all and sundry about how great a help I am to them. So next time you want kudos for praying for others go look for it elsewhere, because making no effort cuts no ice here.
Second of all, the study I mentioned was by the Templeton foundation a christian organisation who are looking for scientific evidence for god, and unlike most other christian organisations will publish evidence which hurts their case like the prayer study. I find it deeply satisfying that you will show your true colours and shit all over your fellow christians when they come up wjth somethibg which shows your fantasy world up as a tissue of lies. Oh, and if god did answer prayers you would be able to unambiguously show it either through a mass of impossible events, or through a preponderance of correlations between prayer and unlikely events, "god moves in mysterious ways" is the same as "god does fuck all".

I do not care what a Christian organization says, if they knew God they would know that no one can say how God will answer prayer, especially a vial person as you. So until you can show me how people know what God's specific answer to prayer is then you and they have no leg to stand on. If you continue with the vial language this is the last response you get from me.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Can you say confirmation bias? I bet you can.
On this subject the bias belongs to the atheist.

Prayer has been tested, and tested, over and over. It has shown no measurable results - other than the same blood-pressure lowering effect that all forms of meditation show. People attribute normal occurrences to prayer because they refuse to believe that they're just thinking at the ceiling - there is nobody listening.
Prayer can't be tested because no one can say how God will answer prayer, I have a question for you, how do you know there's no one listening, a little proof to go along with your affirmative statement would be nice? You all spout that there is no God all the time but in truth you do not know, you can't be sure, however I am sure the God of the Bible is real, you're living a chancy life.

If "no one can say how God will answer prayer" means that the results of praying for someone are statistically indistinguishable from doing nothing, why do you think praying does anything at all?
Also... a billion Hindus are sure that Lord Krishna is real, and that you're living a chancy life. Do you really want to risk the wrath of the Lord of Time, the Destroyer of Worlds?
Just sayin'.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Meh. In my view, chancier would be living life according to dogma put down by uninformed, ignorant men thousands of years ago, and cherry-picked by uninformed, barbaric, and controlling men hundreds of years after that.
If the god of creation chooses to damn most of the atheists on this board, it's his loss. For the most part, we are a decent, empathetic, charitable, hard-working group of people. If we're not whom he wants in his kingdom, I'll pass on being included.

I'd agree with Samuel Clemens, there, but science can show that it's nicer in Hell, anyway:

"Strange a God who mouths Golden Rules and forgiveness, then invented hell; who mouths morals to other people and has none Himself; who frowns upon crimes yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, then tries to shuffle the responsibility for man's acts upon man, instead of honorably placing it where it belongs, upon Himself; and finally with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship Him!" - Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain)

I pity you, I can't imagine what it's like to be this delusional. Sorry if I'm offending you, I'm just being honest. I hope you won't waste your life with this and maybe get some proffessional help some day when people get their heads out of their asses and realize this kind of thing is not a sign of mental health.
