Lifespan 1000 years to 80?

Lifespan 1000 years to 80?
So let me get this straight. You're saying that a day and a month in the bible are what we know them to be but a year could be anything. If a year was shorter so as to make the myths of people living 1000 years a bit more realistic what is it? How old was Noah really when he died? 100, 80, 200?

I'm interested in how it pans out when the bible tells us that some men had their first child at 60 or 70 years old. If we say Noah was 100, they would have fathered at 6. Nahor would have been dead at 15 but fathered 8 children.

What's the rough ratio that we should be using to calculate OT years Drich. Don't keep saying it's not a year but could 'float' around to be any length you want but won't actually commit. Whatever ratio you pick to try and shift one bible myth bullshit story into something realistic, it sends other myths into deeper levels of absurdity and you fucking know it which is why you're so vague. A year in the OT is 365 fucking days and you know it. The fact that it doesn't make sense to have 1000 year old men should alert you to the fact that you are reading a book of myths. Instead you try to twist it so that you can accept the bullshit as truth.

Pathetic.

A year in the OT is likely somewhere between 320 and 365 days in length.  Why?  Because an agrarian culture whose survival was based on when to grow crops and when to let what livestock graze where would be intimately familiar with actual yearly cycles that don't require knowing what an orbit actually is to figure it out.  Indeed, seasons are evidence of both our tilt and orbit.  Same with observing the stars.  The moon is slightly different, but also on a regular cycle that can be used with confidence in conjunction with seasons.

Drich going "Well, a year could be anything to them!  We simply don't know!" is utterly ridiculous.  The notion of a year didn't just get pulled out of one's ass.  It was based on regular and predictable observations of heavenly bodies in conjunction with the change of seasons.

No. My arguement states that if "we" (6000 years ago) did not know the earth revolved around the sun, then 365 1/4 day year was not how years were counted. They were counted by harvest cycles or celestial events. Some of which could take longer than a 365 day year while other took less time.

Again the Hebrew word year does not mean 365 days it represents a completed time cycle like what a year represents to us.

Again in this culture days were not counted and marked as we mark them, so to assume your measure of a year was their measure of a year is foolish.
Divide 14 billion years by Earth harvest cycles and get "six"? You suck at math more than I do.

It must give literalists a particularly tough time in mental acrobatics to try and conflate men who lived to 1000 years with, well, evidence that says otherwise.

I have not perused this thread as of yet so excuse the possible redundant answer.

The change is from lunar years to solar years.

Synodic months are just over 29 days long. Most ancient peoples relied on a lunisolar calendar if they went the lunar route, and noticed that the seasons cycled within 12 synodic months. This gives about 354 or so days in a year, given the unevenness with the lunar cycle.

So, even a lunar calendar doesn't fix it.

And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years (moons), and begat Lamech. And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years (moons), and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years (moons): and he died." - Genesis 5:25-27

187/12.36=15.13

969/12.36=78.4

What? So Nahor was dead by the age of 12 (147) yet had 8 kids!

Genesis 7:11
In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

If that means in the 48th year (600×12.36 lunar) what does "second month" mean?

Why is a year a month but the word month is used in the context of days?
