Maybe when religion is all but dead in the west, people in the east will start to realize it's not doing them any favours.

I don't know about atheism outright, but certainly a greater degree of passive irrilegiousness and secular liberal attitudes.
"passive irreligiousness" I consider separate to atheism outright, because by this I mean someone who might claim Christianity or Islam, sort of casually believe in it, but not practice it at all.
That's most young Western people. Find a 20 year old British "Christian" who has been to church within the last year (not including weddings or funerals), you'll have a challenge on your hands.

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Not so much, and those are the continents where the most population growth is happening. Globally, the number or atheists is not rising as fast as the number of theists. Fortunately, religion is (mostly) not genetically inherited; I have some hope that Europe and the USA and Canada will have some influence in that regard; along with internet growth in those regions.
Last time was reading a few articles it is rising in Latin America and now Atheism from my other post is really
taking off in the middle east.

Actually, religion has been dead for quite a long time in China. The Communist Party might have been dipshits, but they at least did one good thing. The banned all religion because they believed that it didn't allow society to advance.

The Cultural Revolution set things back a bit though . . .

They got that right. Religion always favors the status quo.

Hmm, I see. I wouldn't personally advocate forcing the end of it, although I do agree it can hold back society.
I was thinking of the places hopelessly overrun by theocracy, and daring to hope for a gradual attitude change.

Despite supression and persecution from the government, China has the second fastest growing christian population in the world, just a fraction of a percent behind Nepal. Worldwide, christianity is still growing, although atheism is growing at a faster rate. Of course, due to it's currently low numbers, it doesn't take a large number of new atheists to create a large percentage of gain. I will agree that the western nations are quickly moving away from christianity and other organized religions, but those relilgions are growing worlwide.

The USA doesn't exactly send their best there. Such as evangelical missionaries tying their help to some serious praying and being successful at imposing some anti gay legislations. I rather put my money on Doctors without Borders and the Internet.
