UK to leave EU
RE: UK to leave EU
All because a bunch of nationalistic pricks sheeped a bunch of racists together with drunkards, baby boomer old farts, immature kids and plain dumbfucks with the lamest demagogery and made them feel special. Its sad but its true. I had a bigger consideration of brits in general and I thought the percentage of education was bigger there.

Britain had a referendum on this in 1975.  About 66% voted to stay.  So now 41 years later a majority wanted to leave.

If it's non-binding then it's a plebiscite not a referendum - why was it reported as a "referendum"?

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

Truth is, they are just people. Some of them frightened, some of them concerned, some of them nationalists, racists, or whatever. What they all have in common is being easy prey for pied pipers, following their own agenda.

Truth is also, even if it's 52 vs 48 or something, it's only half of the country. Annd you can observe the same trend as in other countries. The big hubs voted largely for remain while the rural areas voted exit. Which doesn't mean, people on the countryside are stupider. They just feel more disenfranchised, being left out, and serious information has a hard time competing with shrill fear mongering.

We had the same picture in our recent presidential elections. Big cities voted for the moderate candidate, while the countryside voted for the right wing nationalist and EU sceptic. We also have a peculiar situation, since a quarter of the population lives in the capital. I'm pretty sure, if something like that would happen in Portugal, you would see the same divide between city and countryside, problematic and thriving regions. The answer is always the same. The divide runs between the ones feeling left out and the ones feeling to have a real chance in life. It also runs between old and young people.

Great! Get the fuck on with it I say!

I think we can all agree on this. I don't want to wait too long before we get IndyRef 2 and get back into the EU. It will effectively be the third referendum Scotland will have on the EU where it votes to stay in and maybe this time it will get what it votes for.

How am I supposed to get a job anywhere in the EU if I am a British citizen? Even though I've never had a job lasting more than 2 1/2 years and would be happy with a job that lasted 2 years. It means that I am stuck looking for work in Scotland, or even having to go down to England again which is something I try to avoid because it's so expensive living down there and is a complete rat race. How am I supposed to start becoming recognised as a German citizen if Britain hangs around too long detaching itself from the EU? My husband hasn't been able to find work in 4 years. I have no job security and we're constantly living on the financial edge despite me being qualified up to the eyeballs with useful skills.

Let people figure out what they voted for. Let's avoid the frog in boiling water transition.

Can you concede now?

That's been the sole reason for all of my mum's baby boomer friends in the south east of England. My mum is the only one she knows that voted to remain. My dad and brother are German so couldn't vote and even my sister in law voted to leave. I have to sit and listen to my mum's friend spout their Daily Mail bigotry when I go to visit.

Not saying that everyone who votes to leave hates immigrants. My sister-in-law doesn't for example. And if Napo says that it wasn't his motivation then I'll take him at his word. But from my personal experience, a fair number did vote because of immigration.

No, there would definitely be leave voters out there demanding another referendum.

I notice that you are very tribal in your thinking and assume everyone who agrees with you thinks like you. And that people who don't think all the same.

Very different people may agree for completely different reasons. And those people will react differently if they don't get their way.

What was stopping the UK from trading globally when it was part of the EU? Surely if there is customer demand any business would try to fulfil it?

How about another referendum. I bet it would be different now people see what has happened, before we've even split.

Someone give me Cameron's number.

We do something like this because half the country want to? Fuck the other half? This is shit.

I voted out and I am no fucking extremist.

I wasn't calling the out-voters extremists. I was agreeing that the politicians who appealed to extremism judged their audiences very finely. There's a difference, and it ain't rubbish.

I'm a Texan. I see shit like this all the time ... pols who appeal to the worst in people, who don't even know they have it in themselves.

I think you're going to have to use specifics here mate, because I don't know which politician or example you're referring to.
