I very strongly recommend windows 10 over both windows 7 and 8, especially 8. 8 was a piece of shit, there is no good reason to stick with windows 8 afaik. It's like having a messy hdd, if someone offers you a brand new refreshed ssd that's better in every way I recommend you take the offer :S

Hammy, one last thing. Make sure your autoexec.bat file is like this.
Also make sure your interrupt for your sound blaster card isn't conflicting with another device...


Also, make sure your parallel port is enabled.

iggi.... you're forgetting Config.sys. That one gets executed before autoexec.bat and has a few important OS configurations....

FILES=20
DOS=HIGH,UMB
BUFFERS=30

from memory, I also used loadhigh or devicehigh commands to get as much stuff our of main mem and into upper extended mem.

and there was something with a NOEMS, so we'd only have XMS... most games didn't want EMS.
