Is white privilege real? To what extent?

I think America is off the charts for white privilege. It exists in Europe too, but America... You can have a presidential candidate who is married to a Slovenian woman, who wants to kick the Mexicans and Muslims out.

But oh, she's white, so she's not a trespasser... it's just Manifest Destiny (in capital letters for a reason, look that phrase up) that The US is a white country, after all.

It's not that different in Europe. We just don't notice, since we're not on the receiving end. But wanna bet who's stopped and frisked by police more often hereabouts? Wanna bet, who's more often on the receiving end of police brutality? Wanna bet, who's having a harder time when dealing with officials?

Same here, pretty much, and I think that's something a lot of white people shouldn't forget too soon. For a lot of us, we're only "white" today because the system was *oh so generous* enough to let us be included, don't forget that.

And even with that label making you relatively better off today, the even richer and more privileged fuckers at the elite of society still don't give a fuck about you if you're working class. A lot of you don't realise that. Just keep voting Brexit and Trump though, I'm damn sure that will help.

If you want an argument to work you should really stop using me as an example of the things that won't happen to white people because their in the majority.

I don't know how many times I have to repeat this but I lived in a Pakistani community for 31 years, yes I have had to worry about what I say because sometimes I've made a remark it's been said it's a typical white thing to say and white people always say that.

My family has been told that we might aswell sell our house and leave by some old Pakistani who just came to our door to tell us that, I've been punched, called white trash and every other name relating to that phrase.

And that's not to cast a bad light onto the Pakistanis, the majority of the time they're great  neighbours and there's worse white majority areas near me to live in, but in 31 years I've encountered some idiots.

So white privilege and all other arguments aside, don't say you know what I've had to worry about and what I haven't had to worry about at least without asking me first. And that's if you want any kind of accuracy or truth to what you're saying.

If I get told anymore about me not having to worry about being in the minority or the prejudice that sometimes entails from that I'll just assume people aren't reading what I'm writing.

Coin the the phrase "Pakistani privilege" in your neck-of-the-woods...I won't argue you on it.

In the US, we generally do white privilege, though.

This thread really comes down to you not having a clear handle on the words, "all" and "only" or "here" and "there".
And some other stuff, apparently.

My area really isn't that bad for me personally over 31 years and just a few racist incidents.
Worse has happened to other people though, ive seen a black guy beaten with a wicket til his nose burst by s Pakistani gang and a white guy was killed up the road.
I personally have had pretty good neighbours.

"White privilege" doesn't mean that you automatically enjoy upper-class status. It means you have a relative advantage over black people, ceteris paribus. 

Despite how bad your circumstances may seem, racial discrimination could take you a long way down from where you are now. 

(Also consider the fact that you might not enjoy straight privilege. Which is, like white privilege, huge.)

Being gay does mess with the privileges a bit, but people still assume you're not going to steal from them or shoot them. Your personal life choices determine where you'll end up. Not the presence or lack of white privilege.
