Whew! I am sorry if this post is out of context but I have been gorging on cheesecake and porn. At least it was feminist porn! I will try and read back and reply more thoughtfully next time. BTW! I make a very simple and luscious cheesecake topping: raspberries , just enough sugar to get them macerating, and a couple of drops of decent cognac. Let marinate for a few hours while you get down to business. For those recovering leave off the brandy.

Pete, irrational fears and biases come with having children.  I can personally attest to that.  I used to have myself convinced that my son (who was 1 at the time) was going to somehow unlock the bathroom door, pick up our box fan, throw it in the toilet and electrocute himself.  This was not a fear grounded in reality in any way.  Maybe that's a stupid example, but my point is, it's alright if you don't want to think of your daughters as the cliche "whore" getting hammered and banging a different stranger every night.  But, you can't generalize your personal biases across the general population, and you can't make assertions that aren't supported by the facts which, in this case, they clearly are NOT.  That doesn't mean you are expected to be suddenly okay with the idea of your baby girl having a longer partners list then your sluttiest male college friends, just keep in mind there is a difference between facts and feelings.

Promiscuity isn't a problem if:

It's something the person wants
Isn't tied to actual destructive behavior (theft, addiction, etc.)
Protection is used (diseases are real and unwanted pregnancy generally sucks for a variety of reasons)

Beyond that, who gives a fuck (pun intended)? A sex drive is just as natural as mundane hunger, our thirst for excitement, or our need to satiate our curiosity. There's no real (as in, not made up by Middle Eastern goat fuckers who needed to ensure their lineage for political reasons) reason to treat sex as some mystical, magical, taboo thing.

People generally don't like thinking about their children eventually having sex because we've tied the ideas of innocence and purity to virginity, especially female virginity (thanks again, religion). So sex means viewing them as an adult rather than something idyllic. The thing is, it's going to happen. I don't like thinking of my 3 year old niece having sex at some point, but it's going to happen. And since it's inevitable, I'd much rather that she have comprehensive education about it, as well as access to contraception and various healthcare and family planning resources/facilities than not. Because mystifying it and simply making it taboo only makes it that much more enticing while simultaneously leaving her/them utterly unprepared for the realities of it. And that's a staggering disservice for our youth.
