The principal dentifying characteristic of a false prophet, other than they're trying to claim prophecy, is that they're the only ones who are surprised when their prophecies fail. Ask Harold Camping.

Jonah sure was surprised/pissed off that Ninevah repented and the wrath of God did not fall upon them at first as he prophesied.
