Ok, maybe rednecks are more southern, where as hicks are more of a mid-western thing. The terms are fairly inter-changeable though.
It's all good, I get where you're coming from. But y'all's hicks aren't as edumacated as us rednecks.

It is. I wish the power lines were underground ... but this ain't the city, we don't have that kind of money.
I love living here. Wildlife all around, quiet nights, and if I want to deal with people I go to see them -- they ain't around unless I want them.
Sounds like my kind of place.
I live in a town just outside of a city so you can imagine it gets fairly busy.

There's a lot of that sort of bigotry, too. I experienced it firsthand in my years in SoCal.

Then maybe you should say white trash because we hate white trash too. Redneck is a good term for good people. It was started from farmers bending over their fields and getting a sunburn on it. Cowboy hats were made large brimmed to try and avoid direct sun on the face, chest, and neck. We take pride in the term redneck because it refers to someone that was outside working doing manual labor.

In my experience, limited though it is, you are much more likely to hitch a ride after your car has broken down from a redneck than from one of his city mouse cousins. For that matter, the redneck is more likely to stop and take time out of his day to poke his head under your hood to help you figure out what's wrong. And there's nothing like rural hospitality.
I grew up in a very rural area. My hometown in North Dakota is entirely driven by the local farm economy, and it's populated by hard-working people who don't put on airs. I have an uncle who did extremely well for himself in one of the 'professional' fields and was a bit full of himself thanks to his income. I recall how he once made an ass of himself at a family/friends-of-family gathering with his ostentatious behavior. Little did he know but the man he was being obnoxious in front of owned something like 60% of all the farmland in our county and could have bought and sold my uncle many, many, many times over. But you'd never guess the humble guy in the plain work shirt, sipping his Old Milwaukee, was the richest guy in just about any room he entered. Just a good guy with simple tastes.
By the way, it wasn't the farmer who called out my uncle. He was too much a gentleman to do so. It was my mother, after the other guests had left.

The term redneck was actually a derogatory word used to dehumanize white slaves, or indentured servants or whatever. Basically, the term was basically used like the N word was used for black people. heh Now I see black people calling themselves that, and white people take pride in the word redneck. It's... kinda funny.
Though, lately the term redneck has become a term that means unsophisticated country people, and a lot of people use it interchangeably with the word "white trash." Rural people are fine. By the way I'm using it, you and Thump just sound like a rural people, which isn't the same as a redneck or a hick.

That depends on who you are. Could a black person get that kind of help as easily, or a gay person, or someone that looks Arab or Hispanic? Some might not care, but others that normally would might not so much. Here in Michigan, I went to school with someone that made black people move out just a day after they moved in, by burning a cross on their lawn. Rural hospitality doesn't seem to be unconditional for many.
