I call such guys "prommers" (prominent atheists). As with everyone, I take away the useful parts of what they say, and discard the rest. It doesn't matter to me who is saying it, except when deferring to a qualified person in a particular field of expertise.

Religion is really stupid and often harmful. Education, rational thought and morality are the main weapons against its stranglehold, in my opinion. In an extremely vague sense, this is a "movement" I suppose, which I stand up for. I am glad for anyone who does so. It's a war of ideas, as Sam Harris would put it. Especially in the areas of the world where religion runs unchecked and "radicals" (people who actually take religion seriously) are abundent, it's never going to end until the underlying attitude changes.

Part of this "movement" is shattering the ridiculous preconceptions many people have about atheists, and stopping them being persecuted.

I do not have atheist leaders. I enjoy watching great debaters like Hitchens and will probably repeat many things I have heard in their debates and writings without crediting that thought to them. They also are repeating ideas proposed by people like Bertrand Russell and Corliss Lamont. After 9-11 atheists have taken the outspoken stance since theism is as serious a threat now as fascism was in the 30's and 40's. Actually theism is a form of fascism.

That's the same broad brush applied to any given group. Theism can be a sort of fascism. Depends on how any given religious group defines itself - and by that I don't mean christian, muslim, jewish or the cult of Bugs Bunny, but fractions thereoff. Outside the internet, in real life, I mostly met nice and very helpful religious people. Maybe because I don't go out of my way to meet any kind of asshole, religious or non religious. But that's just my personal experience and opinion. Maybe also because I look at the person and not what the person actually believes.

Even here on this very board, the numbers of people I like or dislike are about equally divided between theist and atheist. Atheism doesn't define me. I simply don't believe but otherwise I have a very complex set of values which isn't based on atheism but on my view of the world and it's inhabitants. Also there's a very strong resentment against people resorting to tribal thinking and rallying under a flag. Individualism is my strongest desire for me and for everyone else.

It may be necessary to form temporary alliances to promote an issue or stand up against a threat, but that's about all. I'm not only talking about religion here but about politics and social issues as well. It's all about the worl I, personally, would like to live in. The absence of religion isn't high on my agenda. The absence of any kinds of radicals, religious or non religious is very high on my to wish for list. Taking people for individuals and not for the arbitrary group attached to them. Be it because of their religious believes, color of skin or any other attribute tagged onto what I call group think.

Suffice to say, I can't remember having any kind of religious discussion (outside of here, to be clear) in my whole life. The topic never came up, since, as I said above, nobody gave me reason to question them based on what they said about religion.

Yeah, but there isn't one god. Drippys god looks entirely different to the one of CL or Kingpin. Chad probably comes up with yet another version. Atlas has a different image than Al Bagdadi.

Over the last six months I have emailed all three of them on occassion, suggesting ideas that I believe would be helpful to their "ministry".  No replies from any of them. 

What makes you think they'd care about what you have to offer?

I realize this is a really confrontational question, but as public figures these guys are getting 'suggestions' all day long. Everyone's a critic. I don't think they really give a fuck what other people think of them, because they know you can't please everyone all the time and the only thing they have in common is their atheism.

I don't have 'atheist leaders'.
