This is all media pushing us so we may not know the real timeline. That being said when I was following it they said that the dad found out about it in 2002 for the first time. Now whether that was right after he did it or if it was the first or second time he did it I didn't read. But that the family found out in 2002 which makes the girls 10 and 11 and him 14. So either way ya shake it he was high school age and his sisters would have been lucky to even have gone through puberty at that time. I honestly think THAT was when they tried to stop it themselves.

Does it really matter whether he was 12 or 14 the first time he did it? We're not talking about a minor vs adult here. We're talking later pre teen years vs early teenage years with a 2 year difference.

As I said. Point is Mr and Mrs D made a bad judgement call by not calling the cops on their young son the first time it happened, and thinking they could fix and prevent the problem themselves. When it happened the second time, they called the cops. I'm sure they wish they had done it the first time around now that they know it didn't stop him before.

Come on, guys. Be reasonable. This does not make anyone a vile horrible person. And quite honestly I'm starting to think some people are looking for any reason to make them out to be that way because they don't like them for their conservative views and religious beliefs.

I don't know anything about them and like it that way.  But in general I find people very naive who believe that after two thousand years of history since Jesus (if we accept the existence of the man, not the god, as fact) we just happen to be living at the time when real time and myth time will dovetail.  A hundred generations of people who believed what they believe being born and dying in real time but lucky us, we're going to be the ones who watch the curtain come down on real time.  Somehow I don't think of Catholics being in this group, just the fundy protestants.

Do you think this is an integral component of Catholic belief?

Uh yes it does. At that age 2 years is a big deal. 12 is where a boy is (usually) honestly just figuring stuff out. 14 is them realizing what sex is and wanting it. But I've already admitted to watching their show prior to this incident. Yes I watched it to laugh at them but I didn't think they were bad people or have anything against them. (Same thing with Sister Wives) And like I told Kingpin, this is not just a simple bad judgment call this is them putting their daughters in harms way because they think their religion fixed the kid. That is just as bad as religious people not getting their kids modern medicine and letting them die. Well not AS bad cause they didn't die but they still let their religion rule over their daughter's safety.

No, definitely not. We don't speculate or focus about "the end times". It's definitely more of a fundy thing and the Duggars fall into that category.

bold mine

No, the abuse in and of itself does not make any of them vile. It could and does happen to a lot of families. I think "vile" gets applied because of the show and them choosing the show to be a platform to preach. If you choose to preach you should probably not hide skeletons, especially ones holding bombshells.

Do you think much of this could have been avoided if they had broached the issue in the show prior to the dirty laundry being found?

This is not an accurate account of what happened. The victims were the daughters, and the parents did call the cops on Josh. Just not until after the second time it happened. The first time it happened, they tried to fix it themselves.

Mmmmm-hmmm.

Josh Duggar is a serial offender and the parents have done everything they can, including buying off one of his victims, to protect his sorry ass.
