A Muslim, a Jew, a Christian, and an atheist walk into a coffee shop...

That is clearly not at all what I wrote. And my point about "The Christians I know don't proselytize" is that it's as silly as a statement as "the Nazis I know aren't anti-Semitic." My assumption in this conversation is that these labels actually convey meaning, that a person who claims to be a follower of Christ actually knows and follows (or "attempts" to do so at the very least) what Christ instructed his followers to believe and do.

I'll just deal with what the texts actually say and let the religious or their apologists fight over who is really living up to the ideals the foundational texts espouse. These ideals seem clear enough to me; that they don't to the nice ones is a problem we all must face.

Then your problem seems to be with the texts, great. No argument there.

Not sure how that fits in with the meme you made.
See the good summary by Excited_Penguin. My meme takes it for granted, as is reasonable, that a person who identifies as X understands what X means.

A counterexample, of someone who doesn't actually represent their faith despite their claim to the contrary, would be the Muslim political activist Linda Sarsour, who claims that "The oppression of women is absolutely shunned in the Islamic faith." Meanwhile, the Islamic values as delivered by the Muslim God through their most authoritative human mouthpiece, said: "Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great." (4:34)

Even religious folk spend a lot of time complaining about all sorts of things that are part of his plan. And this complaining is also part of his plan.

Weird plan.

God knew you were going to post that.

You have an idiosyncratic idea of 'not at all what I wrote':

Mudhammam Wrote:The whole "if you're militant against religion and the bullshit its missionaries try to spin, then you must be a big meanie who doesn't see these deceived folk as people" (insert silly remark about how "not all X act as proselytizers" or "the Christians I know don't proselytize") is just dishonest trash, I'm ashamed for those, some of whom I have considered to be among the brightest members here, that seem to be falling for it.

Bolding mine.

You can make a long list of silly statements no one here made. Who are you arguing with?

I was arguing against your sloppy cut and paste job that misrepresented my words.

So you don't think those inserted remarks you imagined are dishonest trash?

And there was no cutting and pasting in post #28 at all, so I don't see how it can have been sloppy.

Unless English isn't your first language, Agenda, you really have no excuse for failing to understand the work that parentheses do.
