What book are you reading?
RE: What book are you reading?
Well I just finished the free downloadable devler's magic series by Jeff Inlo. I'm now going to start the game of thrones series I think, as I love the show.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

I tend to have three or four books on the go, so I can dip into different things depending on what I'm thinking about. At the moment, it's a little introductory book on Hume by A.J. Ayer, Augustine's Confessions (a classic) and an insightful book on Jesus of the Gospels with an emphasis on Middle Eastern culture by Kenneth Bailey.

Just got done reading The Seven Daughters of Eve by Brian Sykes. Quite an easy and enjoyable read, although the last quarter of the book was basically speculative fiction. I'm now reading The Selfish Gene by Dawkins. It's more heavy going and the guy tends to ramble on a bit, but it's pretty interesting to read about evolution from the genes point of view.

I usually alternate between fiction and non-fiction, but I'm in a bit of a genetics phase at the moment.

Currently, I'm reading Bill James' book Popular Crime, which I read about in an issue of Wired.

I have just finished Forged: Writing in the Name of God--Why the Bible's Authors Are Not Who We Think They Are by Bart D Ehrman and Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why by the same author. In my opinion those books along with Jesus Interrupted should be on must read list of everybody.

Because Ehrman explains in layman's language what "higher critical" biblical scholarship has discovered in the past two centuries about the New Testament. Also in Misquoting Jesus Ehrman makes the case well that the "proto-orthodox" Christians added verses and altered others in their efforts to combat rival sects of Christianity (such as the Gnostics).

Terry Pratchett - Unseen Academicals

Douglas Adams - And Another Thing, I don't know why I haven't already read it but when it's described as part six of three, it is confusing.

Just FYI, Eoin Colfer wrote And Another Thing, and it's described as the sixth part of a trilogy because, after the release of the third book, it was described as a "trilogy," and with the release of the fourth book, either Douglas Adams or his publishers decided to keep the moniker of trilogy as a joke.
