Whadja give, whadja get?
December 25, 2016 at 9:47 pm
Ok, time for the TRUE meaning of Christmas: the pressies.
My wife gave me a beautiful collection of ancient coins, dating from just after Alexander's death to the early Byzantine period, 15 coins in all.
For her, I commissioned a small (2m x 3m) tapestry depicting the house she grew up in.
Various lesser doodads were given and received.

Got: Some clothes, some shoes, a smart watch, an amazon echo, and a ipad mini. Oh, and an exercise ball.
Gave: Hooboy. Too much to name. God my kids a bunch of games and toys. My youngest got bicycles. My oldest got their first ipods. Not to mention all the other stuff we got them. Got my nephew this really cook K'nex coaster. Oh and I got my husband a hoverboard. It wasn't nearly as exciting as I hoped it'd be, but he likes it.

My daughter got an Etch-A-Sketch and Legos and Santa *aka* handsome USPS delivery guy brought me a record player.
A generous friend gave me his Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band record album. It was the first record I ever bought when I was a kid. Oh, the memories.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

While the wife was in the jewellery shop, the next 2 shop fronts had these in their windows.
One brought back childhood memories and the other just made me hungry.
(She got some nice earrings and I got a computer mouse and 2 pairs of jocks!)

Nowt and nowt, though we haven't had ours yet... but when we do (when my sister comes home in a few days) it will only be trinkets at best... nothing big. For me, the true gifts of Christmas are the company and the memories, so to that end me and my mum went to the carol singing together in the town centre on Christmas Eve... memorable highlights (and lowlights ) included turning around to find a donkey walking through the crowd right behind us, and trying to keep a straight face when, packed in like sardines I farted fairly loudly And then, on Christmas Day, going for a nice long walk with my dad, including looking out over a babbling brook at a beautiful blue, grey, and yellow night sky... it was just a lovely evening and probably the mildest Christmas I've ever known... it was wonderful... just like spring rather than winter... and made me want to change the words of that song to 'I'm dreaming of a mild Christmas, just like the one's we've never known' So as far as I'm concerned it's been a great Christmas, and those memories will last much longer than say a DVD or whatever that would be forgotten within a month.
