Based on my readings of the Bible and the Jewish Babylonian Talmud I tend to discount the accuracy of any of their numbers about everything. They tend to lie.
How is it you know they lie when it comes to numbers, if the rest isn't lies then why would they lie about the numbers. I'm sure you understand we are discussing spiritual matters and within that there are miracles to be accounted for.

I do not think this army went to be destroyed. As for an Ethiopian army of one million, that's not what the Bible says, you stopped short of reading about Asa's entire reign. The seer Hanani asked Asa why he didn't rely on the LORD as he did when he faced the army made up of Ethiopians and Lubims (ie Libyans). During those times history tell of armies joining together to defeat Egypt. Shishak with his Ethiopian army was joined by the Lubim army to defeat Egypt and Shishak became the first black Egyptian pharaoh. Shishak was the Egyptian pharaoh that lead that million man army, so there were probably Egyptians amongst those million also. GC
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Yes I know, it was Shishak's predecessor who was by Egyptian records Ramos's IV that had a overseer of the northern territories which would have included southern parts of Judah, his name in Hebrew was Sarah and he most likely was an Ethiopian. For info Shishak was Ramese III. As I said large armies were put together to defeat Egypt and though historians believe the numbers were exaggerated (ie. because they believe that happened in the reports of most nations in those times) doesn't mean they are right, they were not there. Even if the numbers were exaggerated Asa with God's help defeated the Egyptian army and was the finial blow to Egypt's reign of that area. Sorry for the misinformation in the earlier post, I got my rulers mixed up and went and checked to make sure I was giving it to you correctly this time. Not all historians agree with what I just reported but this account brings together quite nicely the history of the two nations that other accounts do not.. GC

Jesus thought the end times were imminent. Not much need or use for writing things down if the world is going to wrap up during the (short) lifetimes of everyone He is preaching to.
IOW, Jesus was wrong. Invalidated his own ministry. Paul did a big retcon job to salvage the mess The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

But for the sake of discussion it's useful to discuss them as if they were real. The main problem in discussing the Bible is that no one has really read and comprehended it. It's a very complex story.(January 23, 2017 at 11:44 pm)Wyrd of Gawd Wrote: Did you ever consider that Paul may have been made up too? There are several different writing styles under his banner. I'm not sure about your theory, it sounds like Joseph Atwill's and that has a lot of holes. You would think that if Jesus and his disciples were the real deal that someone would have been taking notes. What's the use of having dumb illiterate lackeys that do fuck all besides being his fall guys? As I've said before, the Bible didn't exist as a complete and unified story until an English committee wrote it around 700 AD as a gift to the Pope and in response to the Koran fairy tale that Uthman's committee had written in the mid 600s. So while the writers had the basic agreed upon outline to guide them each writer put in his own little gems to show that it was just BS. Of course the religion existed before the Bible was written and so did various bits and pieces of various scrolls. But they were not the Bible. Once the English wrote it then the stories were fixed, like they had been written in stone. But of course as time passed everyone and his brother added his own two cents and now we have multiple versions that suit the casual reader. The Koran was also altered that way. It wasn't originally written in numbered chapters and verses. Everyone overlooks that, even the most fervent cleric in Saudi Arabia. As for the Jews they don't generally believe in Jesus and don't think that they are going to hell according to the Jewish Babylonian Talmud. Religion is a con game that enables con men to gain wealth and power over their more superstitious buddies. The Bible has numerous examples of that. |
