P.S. When 4 children perish in a house fire, then, yes, I think that everyone has the right to ask, "Why?"

Well IMO, if the thread "spilled" the title into the thread like:

"Four kids & mom of Catholic family..."

and then on the post "die on a house fire(...)", that would be clickbait as per our rules.

I think the thread title says it all regarding the dumbfuckery that is the original post. I knew it was shit before seeing the body..

Perhaps you are mistaking it with trollbait. Dunno why at the moment. Just a horrible stance against the religious, not religion.

I have had a lot of contact with the far right in America over the last 30 years of my life; in fact, my best friend is a far right religious nut, who wants to abolish all welfare, unemployment benefits, social security and medicare.  (Yes, no kidding!)  And, so, the mentality of these people is that there should be NO interference from the government in people's lives, other than law enforcement.  And, I find those POVs to be absolutely repulsive.

When I read it, this news story rubbed me the wrong way, but I would have let things be, if not for the accusations that the Board started making against me, some of which are patently false and offensive, such as I was claiming that "they deserved it".  I have NEVER claimed that, and I have NEVER thought that!!  Admittedly, when I posted my OP, I was pissed, and I suspected that the family in question were far-right religious nuts, but I did NOT state that in my OP!  It only came up after people started making accusations against me, some true (admittedly, I was thinking it, but I had not yet written it!  And, so, some of you were "reading" my thoughts at that point!), but some false.  Maybe I should have just dropped it right then and there and made-up some excuse to make it all go away.

But, yes, I cannot stand people like Ron Paul, nor I can stand the religious right, and if this tragedy had nothing to do with either of those religious, political currents in America today, then I humbly and profuse apologize!!  But, if Dad did have the opportunity to put smoke detectors in his home and/or if he knew of government assistance to do so but simply refused it because of his far right persona (much like my dear old mom refused "free & reduced lunches" for me and my sister, even though we qualified for it), then, yes, he's an asshole in my book!!

I am well aware of the rights agenda . Giving yourself an heart attack on it helps nothing .

Other way around; if you get rid of religion, then you'll get rid of the religious.  And, I bet the childhood mortality rates will drop because of it!  But, judge for yourself:

Now, have a look at belief in God:

And, I know, "correlation does not prove causation!"  (That's what Fisher said about smoking & cancer, after all.)

I am upset for a couple reasons:  1)  I hate it when children die, absolutely hate it!; and (to a much lesser extent), 2) people have been making false claims about me in this thread.  CL just referred to me as a sociopath.  But, sorry, I don't meet the DSM-VI criteria for that, although, I think that Trump does, as least for narcissistic personality disorder.

Sometimes you need to learn to let shit go. Not every person who is religious is bad, stupid, ignorant or an asshole. Quit lumping religious persons in the same category. This shit is getting old and honestly, being a logical person, you should know better.

Yep.

The media didn't make a deal at all about them being Catholic. The article on the OP simply mentioned that 2 of the little kids who died were alter servers at a church called "Our Lady of Czestochowa." The word "Catholic" isn't even mentioned anywhere in that article. (Because, you know, when innocent people are killed, especially children, normal folks don't care what religion they are).

Jehanne is the one who posted this article specifically because the family was Catholic, and made it a headline in his thread title. He did so to take this story as an opportunity to say "Look at these Catholic people, they are so stupid. Being religious makes you stupid, and these Catholic people were SO stupid that they had a wood stove and died in a house fire. See? Religious people are dumb!"

Whatever he may deny or back track now, he certainly made his motives for this thread very clear when others asked him why he highlighted the victim's Catholicism. Of which I have copied and pasted on the Hall of Shame thread.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Just sayin'...That would leave an terrifyingly low number of individuals available to provide many vital and/or highly important services to the world's population.

So, how would that work? Some sort of lottery system being implemented to determine who receives medical treatment, is allowed due process, etc.? Or, perhaps simply limiting access to those determined to be "thinkers"?

The Devil would certainly be in the details, wouldn't it?

All I can imagine is that Jehanne must have had some rough times on account of his disbelief to harbor so much hate toward believers. While I don't identify with that perspective at all, I think it is probably good that someone this disturbed has a place to get shit off his chest and then deal with the feed back he gets. Maybe it's what he needs? Anyhow, some atheists have been pretty traumatized by their experience. I think we can acknowledge that even while making it clear that we don't all feel that way.

I'm all for lessening religions influence on society. But this would be discrimination on a scale never seen in the free world . It would make the mistreatment of Gays and Trans people seem miniscule by comparison
