I do not think democrats plan to be obstructionists just for the sake of it, as Republican were.  If they have any good idea, like building USEFUL infrastructure (the wall is just a waste), or keeping manufacturing jobs local, democrats should, and will, largely back it.

Here's how to fix the ACA.  Add this to the law:

Any US citizen living in a county which is not served by an insurer who can provide adequate coverage options at a cost which can be covered by ACA subsidies shall have the option to sign up for Medicare, regardless of their age.

And let's see how these insurance motherfuckers like having to deal with real competition.  You know, competition which is not just another part of their cartel.

You're right about their priorities -- if the life lost allows them to wrap themselves in the flag, it's noble. if the life lost is some nameless peon, meh, who cares?

Myself, I see Medicare as the doorway by which we might reach universal coverage, sharing the cost-burden. That's probably why the right is so dead-set against it.
