That is so fucked up! Sounds like an excuse. Like, the crime is ok so long as the perpetrator is "saved."

There was an episode of the Comedy Drama detective TV show Moonlighting where David And his boss Maddie couldn't figure out how a magician died and disappeared from the coffin they got paid to protect overnight when they thought he had died. They wake up in the morning and the coffin is empty, end up arguing as to how that could happen.

They end up at the office, and David says "The 69 Mets" meaning the "miracle" baseball fans in reality didn't expect, and Maddie responded "A myth and a hoax". So he fluffs that off and says, "Well God....... (epiphany in the script) There you go, everyone believes in him." Maddie sits stone faced not responding, he realizes she is not responding and gets louder in response "HOW CAN YOU NOT" meaning "believe" 

He cant believe Maddie doesn't believe, and says " That is just something you say, DEEP DOWN, DEEP DEEP DOWN".

Indeed. When I taught high school, I made it a point to never be alone with a student, to be certain that someone was within eye shot. I learned that from my volunteer days as a Boy Scout leader. Two adults present makes for near certainty there will be no foul play. And nearly every time you see a case with Scouts, it's when they are on a camp out with only one leader present.
